I'm wondering what symbol others would choose for bipolar disorder. I have thought of a roller coaster - an infinite loop roller coaster. Or a mobius strip with exagerated curves that looked like a little roller coaster. I'm thinking of it as a charm or symbol on a t-shirt. If I ever made such a charm (I make jewelry) the proceeds would go to an organization that helps people with bipolar.
Am I just manic and thinking too much or am I on to something? What would your symbol be? At the very least, this could be a very interesting discussion.

I would have to say a roller coaster would be the perfect symbol for BP. That's how I feel for the most part =/. And you're right,I think it makes for a perfect discussion where everyone can talk about how people can put their feelings into a symbol.

I agree with both of those symbols... It is a rollercoaster full of thorns!

I'm pretty bitter about my experiences with Bipolar. It was dormant (unexpressed) until another individual violated me. Since I am bitter, my symbol of choice would be a giant middle finger prominently displayed.

I am an optimist - I promise.

I like the rollercoaster going through thorns idea. It would translate well to a t-shirt.
I'm also pretty bitter about having this disorder. Mine originates from bad events as well. I don't know how much of my problem has to do with what happened & the resulting ptsd (I have that dx too) or how much it has to do w/ bipolar disorder. Where does one end and the other begin? But I'm thinking too much and I want to stay focused on a symbol.
The reason I thought of all this - about the symbol - was because my local bipolar peer group is having trouble - the organizer resigned and we are scrambling for funds to keep going. The ideas we had ranged from coming up w/ a symbol to holding a garage sale. No one has acted on anything yet. It's very frustrating. I'm afraid of losing my group.
I was looking at a design book for ideas and noticed that a mobius strip can look like an infinite rollercoaster. That's how this got started. I am appriciative (sp?) of everyone's response.

My husband just told me yesterday that the tragedy/comedy face(s) came to mind immediately after I mentioned it. I like that idea best.

I did an images search of all the different looks for the drama/comedy faces, just because I'm such a visual person and yes bipolar needs its own symbol! Well, I found this, a beautiful necklace, with the 2 faces on it, I'm going to order one, wear the symbol around my neck, it reminds me of where I've been and how far I've come

heaven, hell, purgatory - I'd imagine something like that to represent that up and downs and the dull in-betweens, so something like a picture, a painting... *scratches beard* I think I'm letting my artistic mind get the better of me. But it would be so pretty, too... Artistic, beautiful, deep and thoughtful!

I tried to answer this a while ago, but my computer spazzed out---

I would like two charms, like on a neckalace, or bracelet.
One is of a polar bear dancing around a pole (or working the stripper pole, what ever you prefer!) and the other of a polar bear slumped up against a pole. . .

I would love that!

Completely agree with the theatre masks, this has always been my view. I'm planning on getting these as tattoos on the insides of my wrists to signify my love for theatre, and the fact that even through the ups and downs, there is still always something there to make me smile. Also hence my screen name. my life is a comedic tragedy.

I dunno about a roller coaster. I think a very vivid color photo, maybe even one of those fish-eye lense- something with a hint of vivid reality yet not real.
