Just a quick question I have bipolar disorder just wondering what anyones longest period of stability is or was and what meds you were on its just that my faith in psychiatrists choice of meds arent always what suits an individual.

I have been stable for three years now. My meds for the bp2 are Abilify, Remeron and Lamictal.
Welcome,
Pugnose and her peeps

Welcome to pc. For me, being on the right dose of meds and therapy, ive been stable for at least 3 months at a time, theres no guarantee however, how long moods are stable. after all it is bipolar and has a way of sneaking up on you when you least expect it.

If you work hard enough. take the meds prescribed and see a therapy you can function pretty well. ihave my off and on days. (esp lately) but you get by. and you have to accept what you have and learn to live with it. Not always an easy task tho.

Hope this helps. Welcome to pc. hope to get to know you better

welcome to pc!
for the most part about 10 years altho there are triggers that can give me a mild episode now and then. i use what i learned in therapy (primarily) to cope when i feel agitated. if i have more than 2 days of feeling low, i call my pdoc because i nose dive quickly. usually we just tweak my meds a little. then return to the usual dose.
as for meds that have worked for me i believe each individual responds well to a different assortment of meds. i'm listing the meds that work for me,18 years, but perhaps would not work for you.
i take neurontin, lexapro, and sinequan for the bipolar. my bipolar is rapid cycling. hope this helps and a caution: everyone responds differently to meds but the good news is that there are a lot of good drugs out there for bipolar. it's basically trial and error based on the symptoms you experience. eventually you will find a good mix that works.

I have been stable for about 1 year. This is the longest I have been stable in a long time. I am now on Abilify and Lamictal. I must admit that I still have trouble sleeping, but I don't want a sleeper
