Have any of you tried ECT to treat your bipolar. Was it successful?
How well does ECT work for a bipolar with pscyhosis.

I've heard a lot of different answers to the ECT question.

It helped me.

A lot of people have said that it didn't help them.

Everybody says there are bad side-effects.

I didn't have it too bad. I had a lot of memory loss. I was pretty confused during the series but that cleared up after.
I've had many series. I even had maintenance ECT, where you get one treatment once a month, for about 6 months.

ECT was the ONLY thing that helped me. Then I started a medicine called Clozaril--a last ditch sort of dangerous drug (sounds like ECT) and for 15 years, I've not needed ECT.

If you are desparate and have tried everything else first, in my opinion it would be worth a try. It was very helpful for me and if I ever got that bad again, I would have ECT.

ECT is a way for making things better immediately. But the effects fade and that remains for medications to handle.

Even before ECT they used to put people into a diabetic coma.
