Hi there, I have recently signed up on the website for some help and insight on whether or not I am Bipolar. Recently, the past few years, I've been dealing with a high amount of depression and suicidal thoughts. The thoughts that I have sometimes involve me hurting other people and then offing myself or sometimes just doing it to myself. Other issues I am having are that I am constantly having Mood Swings at my work, school and even at home. One second, I will be talkative as a bird, then an hour or so later I am depressed and don't feel like working. At times I do a great amount of work and I get what I need to get done, then I have the mood swing and I turn lazy, and do things half ***. I can never sit still and I am constantly figidity. I have taken many online test for Bipolar disorder and all of them have come up saying I have severe Bipolar I disorder. I live in Southern California, and well after all this talk I guess I am looking for someone to help me seek out professional help.

P.S. I have been taking depression medication for the past 4-5 months. I am currently taking Fluoxetine, a generic for Prozac. It is not working like it used too. I went to the doctors and they prescribed Prozac at 40MG but it is too expensive and my insurance no longer covers it as of the new year. So if anybody has any suggestions please help...

I'm sorry to hear about your problems, dghboybigboy. It is so incredibly unpleasant to suffer symptoms as you describe.

Obviously, none of here is a doctor, but the symptoms you describe can certainly be the result of bipolar. Unfortunately, taking an antidepressant by itself can be one of the worst things a bipolar sufferer can do. They can definitely cause symptoms of mania.

If you are having thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, you should go to the ER immediately, do not pass go, do not collect $200. It will be OK, they know what to do, and they won't think you're crazy. If you don't need to do that tonight, then call your doctor FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. Tell him what you have told us. Ask for a referral to a psychiatrist, and make it clear that it is an emergency. DO NOT stop taking your Prozac without talking to your doctor first. Personally, I would go to the ER if I was feeling the way you describe.

I hope this helps. It's from someone who has been in your shoes. I found Psych Central when I was in much the condition you describe, and my friends here watched over me until I was able to get help. We'll do the same for you, too.

Feel free to PM if you want.

sorry things are rough going for you right now.
i'm a little confused...who wrote the script for the generic prozac? a therapist can't write scripts so have u seen a psychiatrist and gotten a diagnosis?
secondly, many pharmaceutical companies will offer you your meds for free or at a reduced price if your income qualifies. are u aware of this option to help u?
keep us posted on how you are doing, k? we care about you and you do matter to us.
