Confused Does everyone see their flaws in pictures?

Years ago when my BDD wasn't triggered and I lived normally, I didnt want ppl to take pictures of myself, just didn't like that. Only exceptions were school photographs. I didnt worry about any flaws or stuff like that.

Now that I am quite obsessed with how my skin looks I take more selfies and sometimes I find them nice. I look normal (like when I walk away from the mirror and my little myopia hide my real or "percieved" flaws)

I noticed that my skin flaws (hyperpigmentation and texture) dont show in the pictures, am I mad to the point I hallucinate or is my phone just bad quality?.
While in reality, in a mirror, when the lightning is bad, I look terrible.

I think it depends of the flaws you usually see,
What about you?

I don't own a single picture of myself- not one

I tore all my baby ones up, and I've not had any taken since (not even for things like passports or driving licances)

last year I came across an old one of when I was about 9, but I was so embarrassed I burned it

I never liked myself in pictures, even before I knew I had BDD. it's a big trigger for me seeing myself

I feel sorry for you :/

This summer I had to give my identity card to access camping and on it there is my face from 2 years ago (before I was aware of BDD). This picture was taken after my first acne antibiotic treatment when my skin was clear, Ive always been happy about this picture even if we see a little scar shaped redness on my face, the picture was a symbol of achievement over something that ruined my life for months.

When I had to give it I was terrified and my mind paralysed for a second, I felt like the dude who took my card was insulting me of all the possible words while he only handed it back and smiled, idk if its hypocrisy or I am making up all this, this feeling of not knowing is terrible.

I would pay to see myself from the eyes of someone else to see the truth.

I prefer to remind me the times I didnt care of all this and nobody seemed to judge.

On pictures where we dont see my flaws (those that were taken long time ago) i admire them because there aint no flaws, but i worry extremly about recent ones in which i see some flaws.
The world is so strange.

Ah, but you would only see through their personal lenses, not "the truth", because that would require seeing with pure objectivity, which no one possesses. Oddly enough, at the same time, "the truth " in terms of looks, unlike in so many other realms, is very much subjective.

Just sayin'.

Not to say that I've got it together, because I very much do not. My mind tells me that what society has made very clear to me (how I do not measure up) is the truth, even though intellectually I know this is a bad way to look at it. It's a long way from my head to my heart.

Hmm, pictures. Not much of a fan. I've managed a handful of good selfies, but they are only my face (which is not where my problem fixation is). If *that* came into play, yes, I very much would notice.

Makes me sick to the heart, Oh I feel so tired. And the way the rain comes down hard, that's how I feel inside.

I donít have BDD (I used to absolutely despise my legs when I was at school, though), but I hate nearly every photo taken of me. I tried to hide if anyone took out a camera at family events when I was younger and donít understand why anyone (even weirdo strangers!) want photos of me. Itís not even specific flaws but disliking my whole face in photographs. Though I have a weird lopsided smile and I donít like it much.

I kinda purposely took a bad drivers license picture this year. The clerk offered me a redo and i was like nah. It is appallingly bad. This was in February or March. So i happened to look at it the other day, somebody asked me for picture id. I looked at it, and i thought to myself, eh! It doesnt look as desperate and cloying as my license pictures usually did. At least i looked somewhat relaxed!

I don't suffer from BDD but hate photos of myself.

My passport and driving licence ones are awful, but then it's expected from those self-service photo booths. For some reason, when someone produces a camera and says smile, the end result is not what I see when I look in the mirror.

The saying "the camera never lies" is a myth. TV personalities often look 7lbs heavier on screen. All to do with the cameras apparently.

As I've got older (post 60), I still don't have any recent photos. I'm fairly confident but this is a big "no-no" for me.
