Seen my psych today.
She said she thinks it's cruel to diagnose a personality disorder in those under 18 as our personalities are still emerging...
So she put me down as "Emotional Dysregulation" covering many symptoms from the personality disorders and other disorders...
I'm a bit angry,... and confused...
I dunno.
Just...
I dunno.
Hm...
I really think I have BPD and DPD...
I have all the symptoms & it affects me A LOT...
I dunno.
I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens...
I guess I don't belong here now then?

Is she helping you in dealing with what you need to addres? If so, then the diagnosis is just a label. If you are not getting the support you need, perhaps you can find someone who can support you.

From past experience, I have seen that sometimes the diagnosis can vary from person to person. So as long as you are getting the help you need and, if needed, meds that help. Having been 'over' diagnosed and 'over' medicated solely based on the label, I am reluctant to have the label written in stone.

And yes, you are welcome here no matter what the label says.

Pup

I have traits of BPD and Emotional Dysregulation is one the main issues for me. Try not to get too hung up on labels.

You post where you feel most comfortable posting and where you will get the best feedback and support.

You are needlessly to say very welcome to post in this forum.

I get hung up on labels because if I know what's going on, I can help it better...
Besides... my labels sorta define me. I feel like they do, anyway.
She said she's using Emotional Dysregulation as a loose term for the symptoms I have as she doesn't like to diagnose PD's in under 18's.
So I dunno.

the dsm-iv has a guideline of not diagnosing a personality disorder in someone who is under 18 . my therapist says your personality doesnt become concrete until you are ~26, but the emotional dysregulation is something that is common to personality disorders and something you can work on even if you don't have the BPD diagnosis.

Well, I don't see how when I don't have a definite diagnosis on what's going on to sort this all out as it's more than just emotional dysregulation.
