While it can be difficult to open up and talk to someone about things.... it can be so helpful once you do it. and look--- you've only been here for 6 days and you've almost got 30 posts-- seems you can express yourself in some way.
When I was first going to counseling I wrote things down and took it in for the therapist to read-- that helped some.

therapy is not for the meek- it's hard work and can be triggering and there's most progress doen when one is willing to hear the "hard things" and it can sometimes feel one is going backward instead of forward-- but in time, the progress can be seen and felt.(for most people)

best to you

Therapy won't fix you. I think that it is important to know that ultimately the therapists is only there to help guide into self awareness and to use that to help you learn how you can better operate in the world. We all need to better learn how to truly understand ourselves to put us in a position to make better choices and then follow through with those choices in a balanced way. Many of us who suffer from some kind of mental illness use unhealthy coping skills ranging from resorting to secluding ourselves, drugs and/or alcohol, self injury, directing our anger and fears in unhealthy ways. It's OUR jobs to learn how to understand why we feel the way we do, why we react to those feelings and how to be accountable for them. A good therapist knows how to get you in touch with the whats and whys and to keep us accountable for ourselves. I hope this helps with what it takes to start to heal and get better.

By the way I had to write stuff down over the period of my down time and my therapist and I went over it and picked the things I needed to work on the most together.

I wish you all the best and happiness.

We tend to suggest things that have proven helpful to us.
It takes time and a good fit to open up in therapy.
I am almost 3 years into therapy and struggle with it, yet I feel progress and I feel better.

I don't think we "go on" about it, we are relating our experiences about it and it's helpfulness. There is no magic pill. There is no magic formula. It is work to learn and grow. Rewarding, scary, hard, fulfilling, work with ourselves and our caring therapist.

I agree with this, I don't mean to go on about therapy but I have been in the psych system in scotland since I was 16 years old, I'm now 28 and have found the right type of therapy for me. So I do want to tell people about what has worked for me and it might work for them. It takes time to be able to trust someone, and it takes time to find the right type of therapy. And what works for one person may not work for another.

Unfortunately there are no quick fixes, I wish there was. I remember wanting to try anything that "might" "fix" me. And now I realiseit doesn't work like that.
