I am curious whether there is any correlation between Myers-Briggs personality profiles and borderline personality disorder, and I thought this would be a fun poll! Here's a link to the test if you haven't taken it before, it only takes a couple of minutes. I'm an INFJ!

http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp

Once you know your results, choose it in the poll above. This is intended only for those diagnosed with BPD please! Thank you!
Thanks for this!

I'm ISFJ.

I do recall taking this test a few years ago, with my T then. I vividly recalled the introversion being a huge one for me, as well as judgmental. I couldn't recall the rest of my description though.

I was thinking that the Feeling-Judging types would come up a lot, those seem the most "characteristic borderline" categories. It seems that we prefer to make decisions based on feelings, and like to have concrete judgments about those around us (which unfortunately have a tendency to flip from time to time!). I'm still learning the details of the differences, it's very interesting!

Thanks so much to everyone who responded so far, let's keep this going!

Here's a statistical analysis based on the 17 responses so far, compared to the general population (I got those statistics here: http://www.theanconas.com/MBTI/mfstats.htm)...

Borderline Population..................General Population:
I (Introverted) - 64.7% (11)........50.7%
E (Extroverted) - 35.5% (6).........49.3%

S (Sensing) - 41.2% (7)..............73.3%
N (Intuition) - 58.8% (10)...........20.7%

F (Feeling) - 76.5% (13)..............59.8%..(F=75.5%...M=56.5%
T (Thinking) - 23.5% (4).............40.2%........45.5%.......43.5%)

J (Judging) - 76.5% (13).............54.1%
P (Perceiving) - 23.3% (4)...........45.9%

So borderlines seem to be more introverted than most, which could also be biased due to this being an internet poll and it may attract more introverts in general. Also we are more intuitive, and rely more on feeling. However, most borderline patients are female, and the ratio of feeling to thinking is actually just about the same as the female population. I imagine the difference is not just that we rely more on feeling, but that the feelings are much stronger, more sudden, and more intense. And lastly, borderlines are more likely to use judging rather than perception. Of course, this is only a small poll so we will see how things change as we get more results!

Here are some links that help explain each category...

Judging vs. Perceiving:

Sorry, I took the poll before I read the original post. I am not sure if I have BPD, but I have symptoms. I had one p-doc mention it as a possible diagnosis, but no one has confirmed it for sure. I am sorry if I threw off the results...

That's OK, this is mostly just for fun anyway, and curiosity. Also I like doing "statistical analysis" and pretending I'm doing a real study lol.

Here's some more fun facts!

The personality types are also organized into four broad temperament groups, Intuitive Feelers (the Idealists), Intuitive Thinkers (the Rationals), Sensing Judgers (the Guardians), and Sensing Perceivers (the Artisans). Here is a statistical comparison between the general population, and the poll results (based on the 23 current responses)...

.......................General Population......Borderline Population
NF- Idealist.......16.4%........................47.8%
NT- Rational......10.3%........................17.4%
SJ- Guardian.....46.4%........................21.7%
SP- Artisan.......27.0%........................13.0%

There are an unusually large number of idealists relative to the general population, which jives well with the borderline tendency to place their loved ones on a pedestal, then be devastated when they cannot meet their expectations! Also, idealists are known to be the most sensitive to criticism of all the types, and place the most importance on their relationships.

As an INFJ, I also find it interesting that this type is among the most common in the poll, while in the general population it is considered the rarest type overall!

I used to work for a company that distributed the MBTI to Canada, this is interesting.

I am an ISFJ (as well as a Virgo - which I also find to be accurate in personality descriptions).

I have to go back and read it again, it's been a while...

Two things, Envisionary:

1) You hit the nail on the head with that description. That is ME! haha
2) What is the significance of the 333 in your username? I ask this because it's a significant number for me.
