Hello everyone,

I hope you don't mind me posting in here...just wanted to offer hugs and support to all those with Borderline Personality Disorder, who are struggling. This forum has been in my thoughts recently.

Although I don't have BPD, I have been misdiagnosed with it in the past. The diagnosis, as soon as I received it, created an automatic stigma against me when dealing with other mental health professionals. It was almost as if they were saying "Since it's a personality disorder, you should have control of it and therefore any slip-ups you have are YOUR fault."

I have met quite a few people during my hospitalizations, with this personality disorder. Yes, some of the symptoms can cause the individual to be hard to get along with. However, I have come to the conclusion that we cannot know how tough it is to have BPD, so I don't judge. Only those with BPD truly know how difficult it is!

I see hope in individuals with BPD. It (in general) isn't chemical in nature, and I truly believe that getting help, especially therapy, and giving an honest effort, can lead to a management of symptoms.

I read the posts here still but do not respond often, because I generally can't relate. But I wanted you guys to know that I think of you, I feel a certain connection with the forum due to my past.

Please know that there is hope for you, even if it may not always seem like it. And please keep posting, I still like to read the posts here!
Hugs from:

You're welcome.

I try to think of BPD like depression...if someone came up to me during a depressive episode and said "Just stop feeling so DOWN, get up and do something!" I would be quite insulted. Likewise, I don't think one should go up to someone with BPD and say "Just stop (insert BPD symptom here)...it's your personality, just change it!" I would be insulted at this, for sure.

I don't think people realize how much work it requires to manage symptoms of BPD, or any personality disorder, for that matter.
Thanks for this!
