I've just read this. What do you guys have to say?
"Oh, and by the way, these individuals are far, far too disturbed and dysfunctional to raise children. Children should be removed from bpd parents for their own safety and mental health." Personally, I am sick of this idea people have on BPD. I've heard that movies such as Fatal Attraction and The Roommate were about BPD, I've seen both and I couldn't be more angry. This is not how it is. They make us look like obsessive *****es/monsters. And btw, I'm borderline and I've had a girl obsessed with me (just like in those movies) - and she was bipolar. They're far from the truth, no wonders that BPD's stigma is huge. |

I think that statement is utterly ridiculous - and your right, BPD is usually inaccurately protrayed in the movies but then most mental health problems are. In my experience the stigma surrounding BPD stems from the fact that we're apparently 'difficult' in terms of treatment and recovery. I once had a paramedic tell me outright i was just an attention seeker and needed to grow up. I just turned round and said that unless he knew anything about my disorder he ought to shut the hell up and he simply had no right to judge. I usually walk to ER now, regardless of my injuries

Where did the quote come from? I'm curious. It is hurtful, misguiding, and an apparently great misconception.
As for the movies, have you seen 'Girl Interrupted'? I thought it was inspiring. What about Marilym Monroe? She was quite liked by people. I agree the stigma is out there. I guess the best thing we can do is try to do what each of us are able to do about it. Educate those around us. |

RaggedyAnn67, I found it here and actually I liked Girl Interrupted. I don't know about Marilyn Monroe, but I'm pretty convinced that Sia has BPD. Just take a look at her lyrics.
bb2023 I'm sorry you were treated that way. Once my best friend contacted me saying she was dying, she had ingested a lot of pills so I went to her house and I called an ambulance, and then the paramedic was like asking me stuff like "isn't life wonderful, isn't the world a great place to live in?". I wouldn't be lying, the girl had just tried to take her own life, I knew what she was going through and I couldn't possibly say that, so I said something like: "So-so, but we have to discover that"... He told her, in front of me, to stay away from me, that I was a horrible person and etc. I was the one saving her life, I was the only one keeping her alive, I was the only one she could talk to because she had a horrible life at home. I felt miserable. Those paramedics don't have a clue. |

Rebnsof, stay away from that website. I found it extremely triggering because it's full of bitter, resentful people who just want to spray their venom somewhere. It's not supportive of sufferers of BPD at all.

I think that is a totally biased site.
Those of us who have bpd or other mental illnesses can make just as good or better parents than people who are "normal"/ The difference between "us" and "them" is that we know what are issues are, admit to, and are working on them. "They" might just be trying to hide it or not admit it. |

Flooded and nicoleb2, I found it really triggering too. Once I read an article about BPD females, and how they couldn't even love. It tore me apart. But now I know that I shouldn't trust that site at all. I don't know why do they hate us so much, but the real problem is when our family, spouse or friends are looking for info about how to deal with us and then, after reading that s h i t, they start thinking that we're bad people without feelings and who can't love nor raise children. That pisses me off.
Forgive77 I don't have children, but it's one of my biggest dreams. I have pets too, and nobody can mess with them, otherwise I'll just probably slit the throat of the unfortunate soul who dared to hurt my babies. And I totally agree with you on the relationship issues. They can't possibly be serious. |
