[B]How is it possible that I am still on a waiting list to see a psyciatrist? I was told that I neede psychotherapy 3 years ago b4 I was even pregnant with my now 2 year old son! I had 1 meeting with a psyciatrist in Aand E when I had been abusive to a member of staff in the hospital and later made an appointment with Dr Civarelli who works for Abraham Cowley, then when I got the next appointment in the post the date had already been and gone so thus I had missed it! Its not my fault that the postal system is **** is it?! Ever since then I have been bk n forth asking how can I still be on the list and I need some help and meds! Just to be told repeatedly that I am on the list and if some1 is seen to be in more help then they will ave been put infront of myself! How do they decide that these people need more help than I do!!! I see it as totally unfair. It seems to me if they try to comitte suicide then they are infront of me so it gives the message to those of us that are waiting '' we will help you if you try something bad if not then you can just sit bk and wait till your that bad'' .

Im sorry your having difficulty seeing a psychiatrist, your gp should have made a referral as soon as you saw them and by rights you shouldn't have had to wait more than about a month to see them if the referral was urgent. Are you under a CMHT? I would ask for a mental health nurse or a social worker to liaise between yourself and your consultant when you finally get one to make sure theres no confusion with appointments. My psych has over 700 patients and i have had appointments cancelled because other people needed them more urgently. As i myself have attempted suicide several times before i know what its like to be in a crisis and need urgent support so please don't see it as something personal - your health is important too but wouldn't you want your doctor to see you straight away if your were in crisis? people don't attempt suicide as a means of getting attention. Im from the UK and to be honest i don't know why your on a waiting list to see a psych...you might have to wait a while to get an appointment but i was referred to a CMHT and got put under my doc straight away. I haven't heard of your situation before but i would just go back to your GP and see if you can be referred elsewhere or have your referral put through as urgent - if you've been to A&E cos you feel that bad that should be on your records as serve as evidence for you needing further support. Could your GP give you medication or refer you to a mental health nurse so you can at least get some counselling? Good luck.
