I went to the ER last night because of chest pains.
They said it was anxiety, thank goodness. They asked me if I had been on any meds and I said so many I could not remember. That nice doctor did not know me very well. I must have practiced a lot of DBT because I was able to act very stable. I did not mention any suicidal ideations or beahvior cause it was in the past. I was very agreeable and joked with all the staff, even th ough I was agitated. They referred me to their hotline to find a doc to treat my anxiety. Although I still think I fit the symptoms of bpd, (not telling them that!) I believe now that my symptoms have improved and I must have appeared to be someone with generalized anxiety disorder. I had gone to a different hospital, that did not have my records with that bpd diagnosis on it. I will continue to work on my bpd traits and I will go on here and I will keep speaking for myself and other pwbpds. But maybe my own condition has improved. Took a brush with death to experience something actually powerfully *hopeful*. Carol

ps:
he also told me that he could not refer me to therapy cause of insurance again. I will continue to work at Self Help Mental Wellness and see if I can at least get a primary care doc to prescribe an occasional ativan or 2.

Hey B,
I have 'generalized anxiety disorder' and that's the only diagnosis I've ever really gotten. I use ativan when I get panic attacks. My old pdoc used to think all my behaviors were caused by anxiety with most likely some 'PTSD'. I really think many of these illnesses overlap. I also have a feeling that many of us are comorbid, but I can only speak from my own experience of being so. If DBT has helped you, I have to say that is wonderful...it takes a lot of work! That's awesome. Keep it up. (Good thing it wasn't anything serious too and you're okay) |

That's all true, but BPD is also devious and if you'd gone today instead, the results could have been 100% different. Not trying to be a downer; the DBT is working for you and that 's great, but don't forget the nature of BPD either; that your emotions can sometimes change on a dime. The important thing is that you had a good experience. Keep it up!

Glad the chest pains turned out to be less serious than they could have been. Interesting, but not surprising, that you may have been treated differently by people who didn't have access to your BPD records. It's great that you feel better!

I could have both gad and bpd. But thank goodness I have some of it under control now. I used to be sucidal and I am not now. I didn't have to tell them that (the new place). I am extremely careful with what I tell doctors and medical ppl now. And how they treat me helps, too. Thank goodness this other place was more relaxed and I felt calmer. I will continue to work on it. thanks, Carol

I still have not followed up, yet cause i've been very busy, but I am going to find another gp at least. To help me with maybe getting some prn's (as needed tranquilizers). I don't abuse meds.
