"He that has knowledge spares his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit."

In other words, one who is able to keep his mouth shut is both wise and has a good spirit. Again, you may not believe in the bible, but there's much wisdom and I think this applies here.

Aww s4 oh I have missed you, but I will have to disagree.
Keeping my mouth shut and suppressing my feelings and thoughts is how I got sick in the 1st place.

Although the way I express them when out my mouth is not appropriate either.

Well, for the most part, if you look at the general idea it is true in my mind. it is the fool that spouts off unnecessarily.. but more to what you are trying to say..

I agree with you when one keeps their mouth shut in the sense of sacrificing themselves, their feelings unnecessarily, it is equally bad. More specifically I would have to say that although I believe the proverb is true, it's not necessarily what you meant in your post so that's my mistake. you're talking about assertiveness and the ability to stand up for yourself more than what I was referring to.
