Hi folks,

There has been a recent influx of threads/posts of a suicidal nature here in this forum. We have this message posted in the Depression forum, but it is also applicable here (and everywhere on PsychCentral):
Quote:
No posts on suicidal intentions or actions are allowed.
This means that you are not allowed to discuss suicide methods, nor are you allowed to discuss how/when/why you intend to commit suicide. This is very triggering to other members here, especially since as an online community we cannot offer practical 'real life' support.

You ARE allowed to discuss depressive feelings, and you're allowed to discuss some aspects of suicide and feelings of that nature (to an extent), but please keep these guidelines in mind.

When in doubt, please use the "Trigger icon" and err on the side of caution in what you post here that may be against our Community Guidelines. As always, if you have a question or concern, you can use the "Report" icon to get in contact with the Community Team on an issue, or send one of us a private message (PM).

I know that dealing with borderline personality means that a lot of us deal with suicidal feelings, but please use self-care and go OFFLINE for support for active suicidal feelings.

One resource we have here is: Suicide Helpline that can connect you with resources in your local community.

Thank you!

I find that kind of stupid, yeh I know other people could be triggered but what if someone has no offline support? Then what? They should just shut up and go die?

you're assuming every person in the world has the knowledge you do- they don't, there are people out there who don't know that for whatever reason. Maybe they aren't very smart, maybe they never heard of suicide hot lines, maybe they are too young to know.

So you are saying maybe a notice at the top of this board with this information would be helpful?
That's a great idea, I'm sure the staff would welcome a message from you with that request.

Probably be better if they put it on every main forum page since other disorders have people who get suicidal too and even on the main pysch central page.

I think that if someone is savvy enough to use a computer, find this site, and then announce their suicidal intentions, they would know how to use a phone to call for help.

Sometimes it's easier to talk about suicidal feelings with other people who feel the same and not some disinterested medical professional (which in my experience accounts for most of them)? Just sayin'. NOT sharing methods or encouraging but just working through the feeling.

If I have plans of committing suicide, I would not bother telling it to the world, because someone might know and stop me.

This is a support group for struggling people. Must we censor our darkness? Why can't we be real. I have to hide my overwhelming feelings in the big bad world, I thought I could cry here

Well I think theyre worried about triggering others that may be suicidal. You know that phenomena where one thing happens and it triggers a rash of similar (crimes, suicides etc)? I think theyre trying to avoid that. We have a large community of people here that struggle with mental illness, so it seems like its more of a possibility here to trigger others than it is on other message boards.

IMO suicide hotlines don't actually help, by the way. At least, not in the United States. They just stick you in the hospital. They'll also give up on you if you don't immediately get better. Speaking from multiple experiences.
