Sometimes in the rat race we live in, we get into routines and forget the little tihngs that would matter to us had we lost those things. Sometimes in the absence of these things we realize just how precious the trivial matters in life are.

I took lunch out today. I drove to the taco bell one of my favorite spots for lunch. Mind you when I had my other car before all the chaos, I would eat lunch out at taco bell several times a week. Of course it was routine and just something "I did".

Fast forward to this past year and having to walk everywhere and take the bus. I brought lunch, ate in the office and even at home I was mostly just eating in only ordering dominos from time to time or other delivery. That was the new routine for the longest. time. ever.

So as I sit here after my lunch out, I am pondering how nice it was, and how at one point in my life being able to do these things was a routine, a trivial thing that was taken for granted. yes it was just a fast food meal, and yeah it was just a trip less than 2 miles away but man, do we take these things for granted sometimes.

I just invite each and every one of you who is open to this, to stop and consider some of the things you enjoy in your daily lives and think about what it would be like to have it taken away for awhile. ponder that and then go and enjoy this thing, this activity with renewed appreciation
Thanks for this!

Pepsi max lol

No seriously, I take my financial security for granted, I am paid well and I am very lucky to be in the position I am. I guess that's not a trivial thing but couldn't think of anything trivial other than pepsi max lol Simple things for simple creatures and all that!

Great thoughts. We all need to be more grateful for everything in our lives. Even the small stuff like lunch at Taco Bell.

No, you're spot on. That's exactly what I mean. Those things we just have/consume everyday that are just in our minds, a given.

I try to be. Thing that I've learned is being negative and down on the world is almost automatic. Being positive and grateful, content with things takes effort. This is part of why it's hard here for people to appreciate things because when you suffer from depression and challenges of no fault of your own, it piles on even more of a challenge when being content and happy takes effort for even those people that don't suffer from depression!

I guess I take music for granted. Almost every morning I take my MP3 player out and do some gardening. Sometimes I'll listen to it for an hour or more while I'm lying in bed at night, too wound up to sleep. I frequently listen to it while writing, or drawing.

I grew up with music. Ever since I can remember there's been music at my house. We'd play CDs or music videos all day, then, when media players became common, we'd hook one up to speakers and listen to that. My dad sings when he's in good mood, so that's always nice to hear.

Unfortunately, the music has largely left our house over the years. That's why I listen to my own player so often. When I'm alone, and have no music on hand, I'll sing to myself just to break the silence.

Maybe I don't really take music for granted. But it's always been a part of me, and without it, I don't think I would even be as happy as I've managed to be.

So in the end, while music may seem trivial to some, I don't think I could be myself without it.

Well you may not take it for granted at all.. seems like the point I was trying to make you emphasize here by the fact that you do indeed seem to grasp the importance of it in your life

Is there something more seemingly trivial that you haven't noticed though?

Well, I thought music was pretty trivial until I started talking about it!

But seriously, there is something I used to take for granted. Since my family doesn't have a car, and the grocery store here is kind of small, my mom always gets a lift to a larger town from a friend. Once a week she goes shopping, and my brother and I always went with her.

Then, a couple years ago, the small shop my parents own started picking up a little (it's pretty new still) and we needed someone to mind it on shopping days. I was already working there part-time, so I got to watch it.

Since then, I have gone shopping exactly twice. For a long while I missed it, and I wasn't too fond of my new routine. But I've gotten used to it, and when I had a chance to go last week, I discovered that it wasn't so great as I remembered.

I dunno. It's hard to come up with things I take for granted, because most of the time I don't. I've lost a lot of things that I once thought of as unchanging...

sometimes it takes losing those things for awhile and gaining them back to realize how much they meant to us in the first place... of course we always miss things at first but it's after it becomes routine again and we get used to them being missing and subsequently getting those things back to notice/ I know if I was still without a car and the privelege of driving I probably wouldn't even realize this like I did today.

Oh how could I not have mentioned my pups playing! Silly but watching them play on a daily basis brings me so much joy.
