I was dxd BPD by a dr id seen at a hospital 3 different times in one year. 30 days under his care total. I see a therapist once a week (every Monday!) and have seen her since I have been out of the hospitals. she doesn't see any of bpd in me. then I read this thread about how you know that youre bpd and you guys all post things I can kind of relate with.

geesh. I just want to be ok. I want to be "stable" for longer than a few weeks.
Thanks for this!

Hang in there Halliebeth.

Sorry I can not answer your question as to if you have BPD or not. Either way - I wish you the best.
Thanks for this!

I also cant answer whether you are BPD. Do understand wanting so hard to be "stable"---whatever that is. We all have ups and downs, remember no one is stable all the time. I can attest to that fact. I have never met anyone I thought was stable...docs and T's included...seen them get frustrated, tired and cranky and more.... Hoping you can come to terms with being just who you are and making the most of life......Take care now

Honestly, labels really suck. Pdocs do not always correctly diagnose. For years they thought I had MDD even though I think it was pretty obvious that I am bipolar. Everyone has characteristics of many of the mood and personality disorders listed in the DSM. There is a tendency to diagnose women with BPD much more than men, indicating a bias in the way pdocs diagnose people.

I tend to believe them when the treatment they give actually makes me feel better. There is a lot of overlap in the symptoms of bipolar and especially bipolar II and BPD. Pdocs often confuse the two because they can get hung up on one or two of the criteria, and only focus on that.

I think it is great to seek another opinion from another pdoc. You know yourself better than anyone else does. My pdocs have been wrong before.

Labels are stupid. You are who you are. I know its sucks to have your diagnostic mixed up trust me I do, but your problems are your problems, your feelings are your feelings, they don't need to be categorized to be valid. I hope you feel better though.

I would encourage skepticism until you're actually given an assessment - any kind of personality disorder isn't easy to diagnose and with the 'popularity' of the disorder on the up - a lot of people are being unnecessarily labelled. Sometimes it's suggested to patients that don't easily fit another diagnosis. All anyone can advise here is to keep on seeking out the truth but as I always say, if you're already getting treatment which you're finding good enough in helping you to cope, is a diagnosis as important? Good luck in whatever happens.
