Was easy to get an accurate diagnosis for you? I was reading that it isn't sometimes easy bc some patients are not awared of all the symptons and they obviously don't give the doctor the information and on the other hand, many people display borderlines symptoms but in a slight level and they may be diagnosed with the disorder when they haven't it. I also read that many borderline patients are misdiagnosed with other personality disorders before getting the right diagnosis.

I was diagnosed with AvPD eight years ago. But, I think it was a misdiagnosis. It was left that part of information that I wasn't awared of bc I didn't contact with people, I avoid them and it is now that I'm more in contact with them that I realiced of my emotional inestability, idealization and devaluation people easily, emotional attachment...

How was your story about the diagnosis, if you don't mind share?

I was diagnosed after a couple of five minute appointments with a psychiatrist, though he did have my notes from before (but it had been seen as recurrent depression previously). I wasn't told at the time, and found out months later after my GP accidentally let me see the computer screen! It's a bit unfortunate that I wasn't told when I was diagnosed, because by the time I found out, I was no longer seeing a psychiatrist or receiving any mental health support, so I haven't been able to have anyone explain it properly to me.

I am obviously not qualified to say whether or not it's accurate, but I do have doubts.

That's the same with me. I think it may have been more true when I was younger but no one ever explained it to me, or why I got other diagnoses as well.

No.

I only got my diagnosis at age 36.

Nobody wanted to label me. Anyway I don't do labels.

It took a panel of 3 psychiatrists assessing me over 3 hours to agree I had it.

(that's 9 man hours just for a diagnosis I must be some kind of special )
Thanks for this!

Starling, I'm also diagnosed with recurrent depression. I have read that the interview is the best method and that the diagnoser has to know very well how to discriminate between the disorders.
I understand you, a couple of 5 minutes interviews is a short period of time.
