Tuesday morning I have an assessment appointment with a local short-term CBT service. I'm really hopeful that this could be a positive step forwards in learning to manage things better.

I'm also nervous though; I've been referred to them because mostly what I struggle with is low mood, so it makes sense because they primarily deal with depression and anxiety. But I have a feeling that they don't generally deal with PDs, so I'm a bit worried it isn't going to work out. I've moved recently, and where I used to live there was literally no help available for people with a PD diagnosis. I'm just really really hoping that that isn't going to happen here!

I know I just need to go and find out. Wish me luck!

(((((GOOD LUCK))))

This is the problem I have here in my country. There are few clinics specialized in dealing with PDs.
I read about Mentalization therapy and how a therapist can show you to mentalize even from any kind of approach, for example cognitive-behavioural.
It seems it is giving great results in BPD patients.
You could talk about it to your therapist if you are interested.

It seems that helping you to mentalize properly, is very uselful to interpret other people and yourself better.

I stick here a link for you.

Thank you both

From what I have read, mentalization based therapy tends to focus mainly, though not exclusively, on improving relationships / interpersonal problems. Is that correct? I don't feel like that's really a major issue for me at all, what I really do need help with is mood issues, so I feel like straightforward CBT might be the best approach. It's also very much a short-term service, so it's likely to need to be fairly basic. I will definitely discuss it with the therapist though.

I'm just really hoping I don't get told that it isn't suitable for people with PDs and sent on my way!

I think mentalization is another way to name the DBT. Not sure.
And yeah, for what I read it has to be with interpersonal but also intrapersonal problems. It helps to read yourself better and the others who you are in relation with.

They are not going to tell you that they can't help you. Take advantage of the therapy and tell us how you are doing.

Unfortunately, in the UK, if you have a PD diagnosis, being told that a service is not suitable for you is a real issue. But I will keep my fingers crossed!

I can't believe it. I mean, I believe it but it's so unfair. CBT has been proven as the most complete to deal with PDs before other approches and techniques gave good results in BPD treatment.
I will cross my fingers for you.
