I'm wondering who diagnosed you with BPD? I was "dx'd" by a psychologist, but a shrink didn't agree.. But I'm wondering if it was a ploy to save money
I'm on meds for severe anxiety and depression which are not working... (if I am BPD, I'm a "quiet borderline" ) (I'm in the UK..) __________________ |

PsyD said I wasn't, it was an LMSW and an LCSW that treated me even though I've never been officially dxed. I'm not sure how it works in the UK, PsyD is like a PhD in clinical psychology, LMSW and LCSW are both social work but basically just like any master's level counselor/therapist. How much time did the shrink (Psychiatrist right?) spend with you before deciding you don't have it?

Not long at all... I gave up on him as he said there was "no point" in seeing him more than every 3 months. If I had kept seeing him despite that stupid comment, maybe I would have eventually got a useful referral
But I don't trust them, with good reason. The psychologist was very... Let's say inexperienced __________________ |

I honestly am not sure... The severe anxiety and depression which are so much worse for the past 3 years make me ...
I think the psychologist labelled me with BPD partly as he found me "difficult" but I do relate to ... I guess I need to do more research, and more importantly decide whether it's worth trusting another professional IRL (been burnt very badly, I need therapy to recover from that but who IRL would believe that __________________ |

Do they really think 6 sessions can help
(if the T is any good we maybe get "attached" and then "abandoned" and retraumatised, if they are harmful or useless it speaks for itself __________________ |

Apparently there is so much stigma attached to BPD, that I found it basically impossible to get an official diagnosis. Over the years I have made my case to multiple professionals as to why I firmly believe that I have BPD. In ever case they would agree that I essentially had all the symptoms, but ultimately ignorance and/or denial kept them from wanting to label me. Or, if I am being very optimistic, perhaps in one case or two, they hoped to spare me from the stigma by keeping the label off of me - but this was ultimately just invalidating and kept me from getting proper treatment, soooooo, yeah.
In one case the professional said it was impossible for me to have BPD because I thought I had BPD, and people with BPD are "never self-aware". In another case, the PD possibility was brushed off because I didn't fit some stereotype as far as frequently flying off the rails and brutally abusing people. The notion that I tend to internalize most of it was apparently just too "out there" to be considered. And so on and so forth. I think many people with BPD will continue to struggle with confusion, when so many professionals are so confused, themselves. |

Therapy can be helpful, but I think it needs to be over years if it is to change and improve habits and thoughts. |

I was diagnosed by a pdoc when I was in the hospital but another pdoc had suggested it years earlier.

I was diagnosed by both psychologists and psychiatrists several times over the years. I agree with the diagnosis as I'm about as textbook as it gets, but I do hate the stigma attached to the label.

I don't know who diagnosed me. It was brought up at the hospital when I was inpatient in 2013. I still don't fully recognize the disorder in myself. They also said I have ASPD which I don't understand at all. I wish I knew who made these diagnoses and why!

At least a dozen mental health professionals... I never got any consistent comments from them.
1. "Nothing wrong with you, read this book" 2. "Nothing wrong with you, it's your husband's problem" 3. "Let me tell you about my herpes" said by the therapist. 4. "Severe Chronic Major Depressive Disorder" 5. "PTSD, go buy shoes" 6. "Elements of BPD, but I won't diagnose because it just doesn't matter" 7. "Definitely not BPD, I know it when I see it and you are NOT" |

I suspect I was diagnosed with it by a psych nurse in a crisis unit when I was about 18, My therapist at the main clinic asked if they told me what I was diagnosed with and I said no so she looked it up and was shaking her head and said she didn't see that in me, she never told me what it was though because they changed it to Bipolar. I assume it was BPD because of my age and some other things, and I know they don't like to tell people when they're diagnosed with that.
More recently when I was in the hospital this summer in my discharge papers it had "Personality Disorder" listed in my diagnosis list. It didn't specify though and I never asked. The clinic I go to now has a client portal online and you can see some of your medical info on it. On Axis 1 it has Schizoaffective for my primary diagnosis, followed by GAD and MDD. Then on Axis 2 it says diagnosis deferred, whatever that means. __________________ “All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.” -St. Francis of Assisi
