I am locked in the hospital after a crisis which involved the police stopping me from SUI.. I feel I suck, I feel I am worthless and I feel guilty.
My BF (near to be husband) got offered a group therapy for relatives to people with mental illnesses I know it is selfish and bad, but I am worried they will say bad things about us with problems and that my BF will reconsider being with me I already feel like such an worthless thing Please help |

If he reconsiders being with you, he wouldn't bother going to the group. The fact that he goes will help him learn more about your illness so he can take good care of you.

Hi Ms. Lizette,
I hope you are safe right now. I understand completely how you feel about your soon to be husband attending a group. In my experience, most professionals are exactly that: professionals. I don't believe they will be making fun of you or those who suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder. The goal of the group is to spread awareness and strengthen ties with loved ones, not take away from it. I once was anxious about this very thing (only it was in relation to my parents attending a group about borderline PD). The response from my psychiatrist at the time was "at least you're parents are willing to go." One can say the same for your soon to be husband. It is a good thing that he might be willing to go to a meeting. Sometimes family members cannot hear us when we try to help them understand our illness. It goes without saying that they will be more receptive to learning from a third party or a, "professional." Try to rest. Be gentle with yourself. Don't overthink things. Thanks, HD7970ghz __________________ "stand for those who are forgotten - sacrifice for those who forget" "roller coasters not only go up and down - they also go in circles" "the point of therapy - is to get out of therapy" "don't put all your eggs - in one basket" "promote pleasure - prevent pain" "with change - comes loss" |

Generally those types of groups help the families to support their loved ones while not enabling behavior. It's a good thing and very positive.

I believe he cares about you and that's reassuring. In the same time I understand that you feel scared, because we read all these awful things many people say about BPD. I suppose though, as others have said, that this will be a safe and professional setting where they will be supportive. |
