I did DBT for 18 months which ended back in 2014. I have throughout and since then tried to adopt the methods and skills taught.
Has anyone else found they just don't seem to help you like they have for others? I am constantly made to feel like I haven't tried or I have failed and it isn't true. I am not allowed further therapy as I have asked and got declined and I cannot afford to pay privately. It feels like I am stuck after all these years of trying I have done MBT for 18 months before DBT as well. The thing is I am sinking to a low dark place and hopelessness is overwhelming me right now. I just don't know what to do? |

I too completed almost a year of DBT before I decided I couldn't afford it anymore. I didn't get much from the program myself and also feel as though DBT makes you feel as though you're not trying hard enough if it doesn't work. If you want we can chat more about this in a PM, I have a great deal of criticism for DBT, while also understanding that it seems to be a lifesaver for some folks.

I've just barely started DBT and I'm not finding that it's really giving great info and skills so I understand where you are coming from. Seems like pretty basic stuff to me that I haven't already tried.

Yeah, that's how I felt madzomoon. The relationship skills were helpful because I have a hard time with confrontation and the cold water trick works WONDERS, but other than that it's like I know I should be taking better care of myself, it just doesn't help me feel better either way.
