Does anyone purposely keep people out of their life so they don’t get hurt again or have problems lying when you go to your therapist
Thanks for this!

I don't have a therapist . I've been shutting people out for years so I can isolate and not risk getting hurt .

Yes and yes, I wound up shutting my own self out too in the process. I lost what little pieces of identity I had and it drowned in the mirror of everyone else.
Thanks for this!

Same here. I end up finding reasons not to be around someone, things i dont like, things that they may have said. Anything at all to justify my reasons. Ive worked with a couple therapists, never really opened up to any. At the end i found reasons i didn’t want to work with them anymore.

I'm usually the shuttee, the one being shut out.

There are now a few that I'm "ignoring", but frankly they're "ignoring" me first so I don't get the point. If they talk to me now, I'll get super thrilled. Kinda doubt that now.

Sorry, no I guess I don't really shut out people. I thought bpd had the opposite effect?? maybe it could be either "relationship issues".

I have found that most people don't want to understand or know me. I'm also very introverted and socially awkward.

Yes. I used to be more open but I’ve found I get along with people better if I limit what I share. I used to shut people out after letting them in. I find that I regret just about every time I let people in. I’m becoming more and more this way.

I shut people out because I am tired of being hurt and because of the reasons Shattered Sanity mentioned. Also, because I just don’t have the energy to upkeep a relationship or friendship.
I do have one active friendship, one dormant friendship (it’s complicated) I would try to put forth the effort for 3 of my 4 children but they are all too busy to put forth the effort for me. (The fourth child is toxic and I just can’t deal with her until she gets help. ).
Other than that, there’s my therapist who I try to be very honest with. I count on her input to make decisions so I need her to understand.
I trust God and my dogs fully. People who are close I mostly trust. Others, not so much. I can’t afford to trust them for reasons listed above.
