I've been diagnosed with BPD and now I am at the start of the process of DBT therapy. I am very emotionally sensitive and I often have anger/sadness outbursts and when things get rough I say to my husband "I hate you, I want a divorce" but sometimes I absolutely love him. On the other hand I don't self-harm and I do not participate in self desruptive behaviors. I've gotten depressed and ended up in the psych ward, but I'm for sure bipolar.

Anyway my tdoc has a theory I do not really "split" in my relationship but instead I'm undiagnosed on the autism spectrum causing lots of problems.

Anyway everytime I go into the DBT one on one pretherapy sessions I hear about BPD, but my tdoc talks about me having an ASD.... How do I resolve this?

Whatever is wrong with me stemmed from childhood, but I feel as an adult my pdoc is only looking at my adult symptoms.

I suggest trying Schema Therapy as it involves a lot of child work. As far as my knowledge goes, DBT focuses on the present and skills in controlling symptoms whereas Schema Therapy also offers that but has more of an integrative and dynamic approach. I have started Schema therapy almost two months now.

I also have no clue what my diagnosis is. I don't self harm but i do participate in destructive behaviors that aren't necessarily immediate such as over self harm etc.

Look up Schema Therapy anyway, it may be something that works better for you. But generally, i think that one should give a particular treatment a good try before switching to the next. But i have also heard that it is possible to do both DBT and Schema at the same time.

Why are you so sure that you’re bipolar?

I've had manic and depressive episodes that included all the classic symptoms. Also bipolar is the main thing I'm being treated for with latuda, depakote and Zoloft.

I see.
Is there any possibility to have an assessment for possible Autism made?

Anyway, even when DBT have been developed as a therapy to help people with bpd within an intensive program, it seem that it’s only a technique.
I guess you can take all the advantages out of it and then, if you need it, you can go on deepening through other techniques.
This is my view as a non expert, ok. :-)
