So I have been hearing voices and seeing floating orbs of light and feeling kinda manic / not sleeping. I was so distressed I went to see the only psychiatrist available in my area. He read my file and said "oh your a borderline" then He said I was just "attention seeking" and said "we don't play those games here". He is also the psych for the hospital in patient ward.
So what do I do now to get help? I don't know how much more of this I can take. I don't have a T as I have been doing really well until now.

Well, not going back to see that psychiatrist, that's for sure.

I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time. You mentioned you don't see a therapist. I would think that might be one thing to do at least as an interim step. (If you were able to see a therapist, perhaps the T might be in a position to intercede on your behalf with the psychiatrist.) If there are no therapists you can see within a reasonable distance from your home, perhaps on-line therapy might be an option? There are also on-line psychiatric services available. I've never availed myself of this type of service. So I can't vouch for how effective it is. Here's a link to just one such service as an example:

Psychiatry - See a Psychiatrist Online - LiveHealth Online

Of course there are fees attached to both on-line therapy as well as on-line psychiatric services. And if you have health insurance, & you need to have your services covered, on-line services may well not be. So that's another limiting factor.

The only other thing that occurs to me would be, if such as thing exists where you live, to contact whatever governmental mental health services offices cover your area. Where I live, the county I live in has a mental health unit. And there is also a state department of human services mental health unit. If I were in the situation it sounds as though you are in, I would contact one or perhaps both of them. It might or might not result in anything I suppose. But I would think it would at least be worth a try.

Do you have a regular Dr. who you see regularly for physical stuff? If you do could you maybe go to them and explain what's going on, and ask them to explain to the psych that you're not attention seeking, that you have a real issue going on?

I'm sorry that psychiatrist was such a jerk.

i'm a 72 yr. old female who was diagnosed bp2 about 40 years ago and most times i had a psychiatrist for the meds. when i moved out of state and became eligible for medicare, my current psychiatrist would no longer treat me under my medicare/health insurance plan. i know this illness inside and out and after 40 years i know all my triggers and what finally works for sleep and maintaining stability. for me, living in az. i found several decent psych nurses who are very qualified for understanding my mental illness and possibly changing meds as needed; most of them take my current insurance so i have only a $40 copay.
