I'm on my second round of DBT in the past couple of years and I just feel like it doesn't work as well as I thought or hoped it would. I struggle to use skills during really difficult times and I just feel like I'm a failure.

I feel like I don't act out as much but I still feel pretty ****** overall and I can't hold down a job. I'm not giving up or anything I just feel like I want to throw DBT out the window and tell my T please let's just do something else.

ThunderGoddess, I can identify with you on DBT, it is a difficult skill to learn. I’m not in the process of learning the skills, I simply know them and use what I’ve learned through therapy. One skill which I’m catching on to is the soothing skill when I start getting irritated. I find something soft to hold and feel until I’m at peace. With all the skills out there gaining just ONE is a step in the right direction. Dealing with BPD isn’t easy it’s down right HARD! And unfortunately we must discover skills which help our emotions I heard there are other techniques which can help however; I have tried any other just DPT. My T try’s other stuff but usually I push away new things (LOL).
ThunderGoddess I know it’s hard, know your NOT ALONE in the struggle or fight. Have faith, you can do this!! Inch by inch anything is a cinch.
I kind of hate DBT

Thanks for the kind and supportive words! It really is so hard I feel like I have a good grasp on distraction skills those come very naturally to me but right now I've been working on the STOP skill and it makes me want to scream lol I mean I do scream and I'm trying to STOP! I'm the same with new things I feel like sometimes I'm so moody I just want to say no to everything but at the end of the day that isn't going to make changes. BPD is interesting like that, it seems like you want to push away everything that will help even emotional support can feel unwanted at times, what a roller coaster.

Hi, I think that as you don't act out as much as you used to, that is a definite improvement. Jobs can really suck, with the meanness etc which is so prevalent. Maybe your T can help with self hate etc in addition to DBT. I don't know if your T is trained in ''dynamic therapy''... I have heard that can help some with BPD. I also think that DBT can help people with almost any diagnosis, not only BPD, and it is hard to apply when triggered etc.
