I was diagnosed with BPD they say people who have it tend to be sociopaths. I know this is not true, atleast for me. As I heard someone put it we who have BPD care too much! What are your opinions?

I don't know enough about BPD or sociopathy to have an educated opinion. I would think that these two are not identical though since if they were primarily the same, then why would they constitute separate diagnostic categories? But like I said, I am not well informed. Hopefully others here with better information will see your post and respond to it with something really helpful. I am very sorry that you are burdened with BPD. It is a heavy burden to bear I have heard. Best to you!

A sociopath often keeps to themselves and lacks intimacy. And they get in trouble with the law by way of theft or burglaries and they sometimes physically harm animals. Someone with BPD craves relationships and they may break the law but typically not those laws it would be more reckless and impulsive if a law is broken by someone with BPD. I can see where someone may be confused on the two because of some symptoms that appears similar on the surface but is actually a misconception of BPD. And that is being deceitful, aggressive, and narcissistic. These three traits are not exactly straightforward with BPD. Like someone with BPD would only process these traits to protect themselves from what seems like a threat or abandonment. It's not done in a malicious intentful way. Whereas sociopathy would purposely be deceitful and aggressive to someone for personal gain or pleasure. Someone with BPD at the very worst would lack control and be impulsively angry. But someone with BPD would feel remorse, guilt, or shame after acting this way. I also want to add that sociopathy is also a mental illness and they didn't choose to be that way so they also have struggles as well. I don't want this post to come off as insensitive to anyone with sociopathy I'm just explaining what I understand to be the difference. __________________ Just keep swimming I have BPD or Autism or both, we may never know, the focus is always the symptoms, not the diagnosis |
