Technically in USA they do not acknowledge cptsd. The two are often confused and because of stigma people who have personality disorder refuse to accept it, making it harder for them to get treatment. Not that treatment is easy since it’s long term DBT that insurance fights. Medication often makes it worse not better.

My psychologist told me it’s the same thing but complex ptsd Carries less stigma. He refers to my childhood as complex trauma. He never talks about bpd bc he knows I hate that but the truth of the matter is we learned how to survive. That’s where bpd comes from-complex trauma.

I also think they are often the same thing. I also think that complex PTSD carries less stigma.

BPD usually (but not always according to what I've read, and that could be wrong) does come from complex trauma. Surviving complex trauma.

My psychologist says that they wouldn’t change it for the dsm5 but it’s the same disorder

I definitely have cptsd and although a few therapists over all the years of my mental health treatment have suggested that I have some "BPD traits" I have never been dx'ed with BPD (and I know I don't have it).

It angers me when a mental healthcare person refers to cptsd or ptsd and bpd as the same thing. Why is it almost always women that they say have bpd? My husband is a Vietnam vet with ptsd - no one has ever told him that he has bpd or bpd traits, even though he has major anger problems. But me, a woman who grew up in an extremely violent and abusive home - I have anger issues, so I'm told now and then that I have bpd "traits." What's that all about?

Sorry to get on a rant , but the whole thing really burns my butt.
