Ha, a lot of them are newer (looking back Radiohead and I think Stone Sour are the "oldest"). Anything I listen to pre-90s is pretty much party/feel good/ fk shyt up music

Refers to May and June 1996. The poisoning can be described as:

The monster that I've become
Has just done what cannot be undone
Unconscious state, who am I?
What have I done? I do not know

Regret by Suffocation

I read a newspaper or interact with people when I watch the news. William Shakespeare had things figured out pretty well way back in 1606. This is his famous quote from Macbeth, but it does not ring true. He is speaking of life here.

"Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

Yup, that nails it.

I am going to cheat and do two here. Considering I was shot twice in combat in Somalia. I had a surgeon botch a gallbladder removal, and I had been told I would be in the hospital overnight. I was in there for three and a half weeks; the idiot dropped it onto the top of my liver somehow. It gave me pancreatitis. At the age of 45, I was diagnosed with stage 3B lung cancer and had to have a lung and several tainted lymph nodes removed. It is back and winning, but I am almost a year past my primary oncologist's estimated timeline. This is just part of the lyrics to a song by a group called Godsmack called "Bulletproof." I can be ornery, and I will never give up.

Contemplating, isolating
And it's stressing me out
Different visions, contradictions
Why won't you let me out?
I need a way to separate, yeah
But I promise you that I'll make sure you never forget me
(Never forget me)
Now that you want it
Now that you need it
I'm too far gone
You're trying to blame me
But I'm not breaking
I'm telling you, I'm bulletproof
Believe me, I'm bulletproof
You make me so bulletproof
And now I'm too far gone
