I wanted to start this thread so others could talk about what they think caused/triggered/started their bulimic behavior.
When I was in 4th grade I started puberty, so I was heavier and more moody than all the other kids. In 6th grade the proverbial ***** hit the fan. I was picked on daily by a group of boys for my weight (I was a heavy kid). I was also beat up a lot, almost every day, by these kids. In middle school I was made fun of for my... Chest endowments. And in my head I heard 'fat kid'. In high school the teasing slowed down A LOT, but every comment - no matter how harmless - put me in a slump that made me hypersensitive about my weight. Freshman year was the time I started experimenting with what I called 'fasting' and whenever my fast went wrong, I purged. This continues to this day. So anyone else wanna share? |

Horsepenny, I am sorry to hear about your experience. That is actually very similar to what I experienced. I would fast, then binge, then purge, then fast again. It is a horrible cycle. Only recently diagnosed with an eating disorder because it's tough to get bulimia taken seriously sometimes if you aren't underweight. Which, by the way, is not a requirement for a bulimia diagnosis according to the DSM IV. Even psychiatrists are misinformed.
I hope you seek out help and treatment. It is a difficult thing to confront but it can be done. __________________ "Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal." -Albert Camus |
