I've created this poll because I am tired of reading about purging simply and only as vomiting.
I would like to hear your opinions on what purging means to you. You don't have to have an eating disorder to take part in this. You can vote for more than one option. If you selected 'other', please say a little more in the comments below.

Well that is what I do. I vomit but I understand there are other forms of purging. Your poll question is "What does purging mean to YOU."

When a child’s emotional needs are not met and a child is repeatedly hurt and abused, this deeply and profoundly affects the child’s development. Wanting those unmet childhood needs in adulthood. Looking for safety, protection, being cherished and loved can often be normal unmet needs in childhood, and the survivor searches for these in other adults. This can be where survivors search for mother and father figures. Transference issues in counseling can occur and this is normal for childhood abuse survivors. |

I think purging includes all that you (poster) has listed - vomiting, over-exercising, etc. However, I think one has to exercise A LOT for it to be counted as a sign/symptom. I guess at least 2 hours/day constitutes a lot.
