I’m now living with my mom now due to family issues and I think she’ll help me with my mental health unlike the rest of the family but I’m terrified of talking about it in case she doesn’t understand. While we were talking I accidentally said more than I meant to and ended up telling her about the bulimia. She said if I ever needed help for things like that I can go to her. Should I ask for therapy? Specific medication? I don’t know what to tell her that I need, and if it’s therapy, what cheaper options I can bring up. Please give me any tips you have on talking about it, I’ve never been able to bring this up with anyone before.

Hi, snakeswithhats! Welcome to the Forums! I'm glad you joined us. There is one thing in your post that I can relate to, not being able to talk about the specifics of my most difficult problems. Could it be it's mostly an issue of trust?, fear of betrayal, prejudice, misunderstanding & judgement? So if you think your mom can't understand, is there a really good friend in your life you can talk to instead? Possibly a therapist would be a good idea, if you can find the right one. I know it's hard. Good luck with everything you try!

well the situation is my adoptive grandmother that I used to live with always overlooked my mental health so I never talked about it with her and I’ve never had the opportunity to get help for anything. She passed recently so I’m living with my mom now. I have no idea how she’d react but I feel like she wouldn’t be like my grandma and I might be able to get help but since I’ve never discussed my mental health with anyone in person I’m terrified and I don’t know exactly how to go about asking for help.

Keep posting here. Many members here will give you support & suggestions, sharing their personal experiences. I'm very sorry about your grandma being gone from you now. So you are also dealing with loss & grief. Right? That makes everything even harder. I wish you all the best! Take care, & God bless you!!

Thank you ^^ yeah I’m going through a pretty stressful situation right now but I think if I can just get through bringing this up with my mom things will start looking up.
