I have to go out of town until June 7. It is in the mountains and I have spotty internet connection there. Group will start after I get back. I haven't decided the day of the week yet. It will be around 9 EST.

Our first meeting will be an open meet-and-greet. The following week, we'll start discussing articles I find. I'll announce them ahead of time, and all will be just a few pages and easily readable. The articles will be similar to:

http://psychcentral.com/lib/bipolar-...lness/00017516

I will open the room 10 minutes early, and make it private 5 minutes after the start time to minimize disruptions.

We won't discuss meds because everyone has different experiences with them.

I'm adamant about everyone who wants to speak getting a chance to speak. I usually go down the line and give those present an opportunity to give their experiences or opinions. You can say "pass" if you simply want to listen in.

Will people not be allowed to discuss medications or are you just saying the focus will not be on medications?

Have you been to DBSA?

We're not going to talk about meds. There are forums on PC that give a people chances to get more out of a medication discussion than a one-hour chat with a lot of people in the room. There is no DBSA group where I live.

I'm sorry that wasn't a clear answer to my question exactly, for me. Like for me to understand.

I'm not trying to be a pain. :/

I just don't understand the answer enough.

Sorry!

No, we won't be talking about meds. There are forums on here that deal only with med discussions, so I'll reserve our BP chat time for other things.

A bipolar chat sounds great...I'm just not sure how to discuss bipolar without mentioning medication.

John25 has said there are other people that want to lead a bipolar chat, so at this point I backed out of mine. Keep checking on chat announcements for them! I hope somebody comes forward soon.

There are so many articles out there that we can always find things to talk about.

Everyone responds to meds differently. There are the Bipolar threads plus the Psychiatric Medications threads. These two threads are far more helpful than talking about meds for an just an hour. IMO, these thread replies are more helpful to people because so many of us want to share experiences with them.

My chats are meant to explore other aspects of the bipolar life such as some of the other questions raised in the bipolar threads. I guess you'd say I'm interested in coping skills and sharing new information. That (would have been) my focus.

I backed out of chat because other people seem to want a more open chat where meds are discussed. I would not be the person to best lead that. I wish someone would!

Thank you for the heads up, wing! I will keep my eyes peeled for one.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
