When I was little, I used to fantasize about being in the hospital. The idea of having people be nice to me and take care of me sounded so amazing.

I wanted to be so sick no one could expect anything of me, either.

I used to pray something would happen so I could go to the hospital. I wanted my tonsils out. Anything.

I get it. When I had my daughter the maternity nurse was the kindest person I’d ever met

I can identify with this. I also used to wish I had a serious illness.

I hear you. It’s really sad when a hospital, doctors and nurses treat us with more love and kindness than we get from friends and family. I also totally understand wanting to be sick as an excuse to not have expectations dumped on us. Even now as an adult, when I start feeling sick I’ve learned to think, “ut oh, are you sliding back into old habits of being yes man, people pleaser, perfect child, superwoman? Have you agreed to an obligation that you really didn’t want to do because it was easier to comply?”

It turns out that sometimes I’m actually sick. About half the time. Other times I slam on the brakes and call time out. I need some me time! No I don’t want to go that stupid wedding, I don’t even know those people! Or with my husband: no I don’t want to go shopping with you while you buy those ugly baggy shorts that I hate!” Ok ...I’m on a rant....I’ll shut up now

I had the same fantasy most my life as a child, even as an older child/young adult. I never met anyone who could identify with it though. I can definitely relate.
