I also ask them what they want when I am sad. Normally it's just a want for me to look after myself e.g. Cook myself dinner, tidy my room. This has been a really stabilising part. |

Yes I agree. My inner child is in charge of food supply when I'm too depressed to bother. My inner child likes being tidy and doing the washing up. She gets me to the doctor on time. She tells me when I'm being stupid. She is no angel: she also like talking in loud, silly voices and blaming me for everything. The most important step to connecting with her was doing simple tasks together and saying "well done". With an inner child trying is more important than never making a mistake. We have some rules about what goes where in the house - no food in the bedroom, showering before going out, for example - but beyond those simple rules we compromise, or else she gets free rein. __________________ *"Fierce <-> Reality"* oh god I am struggling today, help me to remember how to stay connected and human! remember: the nut shell against human predators and my own fear! |

One of the things that helped my inner child heal from the inner emptiness growing up is by becoming my own parent. I took a notebook, and wrote down the aspects of my personality, along with talents that I have, and I wrote down while asking myself what is it about these qualities about myself that I like.
e.g What is it about writing stories that I love about myself? I love it because I feel like I'm contributing something to the world whenever I write a story. You'd be surprised at how practicing this can calm that inner sadness/emptiness that eats away at your soul every day. __________________ Want some tips on overcoming low-self esteem, Childhood Emotional Neglect or improving yourself? We also have an inner critic inside us. Your inner child is unlikely to be the one telling you your are stupid. That talk comes from the inner critic. For me going back to a childlike way of relating to things helps. Thus my inner critic is AKA my inner snake. Creating a world where my inner child feels comfort helps. I also love meerkats.... |
