it's one thing I clearly remember from my school days
I was literally the only child in the entire school who didn't have a parent or guardian waiting for them at home time I used to take a taxi back, and would dread it because when I got home I would have my evening beatings from mother.

@emily1890 times have changed. When I went to school I walked home alone even as a first grader.
I think the reason your mom did not pick you up has a lot to do with how you feel if I take a guess. I think all the things I went through made me who I am today so I try not to look back with regret, but I catch myself doing that still. I took the bus. Even from kindergarten.

I walked to school in elementary school. It was a few streets over from us. In the middle and high school I took public transportation. My school was quite far from home. We didn’t have school bus system. Times changed so much. I rode all kind of city buses starting age 10. I can’t imagine kids doing it now. I lived in the city snd everyone was doing it. So it wasn’t neglectful on my parents part. It was a way of life.

I’m sorry you went through abuse. I walked to and from school myself from around 7 but that was the norm for my generation. My son was 10 because expectations had changed and traffic had increased. Beating children has always been wrong. |
