I'm confused about my thoughts and feelings towards my mother. She did not adequately care for me and showed neglect in so many ways, and left me with people who weren't safe. Ì met her recently and I had so much anger about her, yet also confusingly I sort of wanted to protect her or at least my relationship with her. Why is that, when she's behaved so horribly?

Maybe it's because you subconsciously want her to love and accept you and say she's sorry, so you thought that you have to love her first by showing care and giving protection.

Could that be it?

Books to consider...

"Toxic Parents" by Susan Forward

"You're Not Crazy, It's Your Mother" by Danu Morrigan

"Born to Win" by Muriel James & Dorothy Jongeward (features some Gestalt therapy techniques"

I try to find books at the library, if not, I get them secondhand online at AbeBooks | Shop for Books, Art & Collectibles
