i have been diagnosed with ptsd and severe depression. i am seeking treatment with my psychiatrist and psychologist but, recently am having lots of problems with pain in my back and neck. additionally, i get headaches almost daily. the pdoc has given me naproxen for headaches to try but, i don't feel like it's helping. i also get acupuncture twice a week.
today, i woke up with a bad back ache and pinched nerve in my neck. i went in for acupuncture and it has made everything worse. he put needles in my neck and i thought i was going to throw up on the table... (sorry for being so graphic) it hurt so bad. i don't know. i go again on friday but, i can barely turn my head to the right or left. i made an appointment to see a regular doc tomorrow but, i'm afraid that they will think i'm trying to just get pain medicine. i'm on enough meds as it is but, my pain is getting worse. does anyone else feel this way and how did you approach your doctor? |

Hi, I realize that this is a relatively old post, but I am new here, and thought that I would respond. I have been suffering with mild to moderate back pain for about 6 years. I know what you mean about feeling like the doctors are skeptical and reluctant in giving medication. I have tried everything, physical therapy X 4, regular massage, chiropractics, cortizone shots, and every pain med and muscle relaxer out there. I have stopped taking anything for the pain as I have found that it does not really help. Sometimes, it is like I am so used to the pain that I do not even notice it unless someone brings it up.
I also know that having a mental health diagnosis makes doctors think that this is all just in your head. And who knows, maybe it is. It does not change the fact that I have constant pain and discomfort. Lately it has been worse as I tend to get really tense. I guess that I do not really have any answers, just wanted to let you know that I can identify. |

I truly wish you luck and please update us on how it went. I know talking to docs one of the most challenging things out there.

That sounds miserable, really sorry for you.
I am wondering if you could get something to help you relax if it would stop the vicious cycle of pain/tension/more pain. Also, please be careful to eat with naproxen as it's hard on your stomach. No wonder you are getting headaches every day with all that other pain to cope with. Hope you can get some relief. |
