Last month on the 17th i got dizzy all of a sudden.Well i ended up falling down some stairs near my apartment building. My shoulder was so messed up that i had to be taken to the hospital via ambulance. Also they could not get x rays untill they drugged me and tried to put my shoulder back in it's place.Well today i went back to the Dr to get it checked on.Now i'm told i need an MRI done. But from the x rays i had done today they tell me i need surgery done.I have an MRI this coming Saturday and see the dr again next week on Thursday.I was told i might have surgery as soon as next week.Has anyone had shoulder surgery here? How long did it take to recover?Do i really need someone to stay with me after surgery?I live on my own and don't get along with most of my family. My mom wants to come here and take care of me.But my apartment is not big enough for the both of us.Could use some prayers and advice.

I did, outpatient and you must have someone to do the driving when coming out of inpatient. I started physical therapy about 10 days post op. It took about 6 months to be 100%. Don't let that scare you. PT will help your mobility tremendously. Ice packs were my life saver, I actually had one of those slide on ice water pumps, awkward but worth it.

I suppose you could handle it on your own, but for me, in the beginning I was very grateful to have my spouse take care of me. I say it's better with a helper rather than not. Perhaps an honest conversation about how cranky you might be in the beginning of your recovery. Maybe an agreement up front that either one of you can call it off at any time and that your mom has to leave when it's called off. Honest talk ahead of time can circumvent many problems.

You'll have to learn how to get your pants up and down. For me it was my dominant arm, so brushing my teeth left handed was ridiculously hard. The good news is I can use my mouse either handed now! Doing a bra was next to impossible for awhile but then it was pretty darn tough before the surgery.

As far as sleeping arrangements, I stayed on my couch for several weeks.
It was just right to prop my torso up. I just couldn't handle laying on my back. It hurt too much when my shoulder stretched out flat against the mattress. I was much happier upright.

I took my meds as directed. They are there to help.

I hope this helps you.
