I am really tired of being in pain. It just seems to be getting worse. At what point should I give up and call for help. I had the last 10 of my upper teeth removed a week ago, the last 8 of my bottom teeth to be removed in 2 days. I have OA, FMS and numerous other health problems. The pain meds make me sick to my stomach. I really dont feel well at all but I am not sure how much more pain I can stand. I have an appointment with pain management for an epidermal in mid June. At what point do I give in and go to the ER?

Can you phone your doc that prescribed the pain meds and say they make you nauseous and ask him/her to call in a different med to try?

It is Sunday here, and all my doctors I see - their offices are closed till Monday. Love the Kitty on your signature. I just took the first pain pill in 12 hours, got to keep trying to lower the pain level. I keep alternating rinsing mouth with salt water, and peroxide/water. Also using ice packs. Pain is so bad that Im fitting back tears, and it hurts to talk.

Use the pain medicine as prescribed. If it doesn't keep the pain at bay and manageable, then talk to the doctor about it. You don't have to be in that much pain, and you shouldn't feel like you have to tough it out.

I'm sorry they did so much work at once. Your doctor "should" have consulted with you first, and taken it in smaller amounts. I surely wouldn't have any more done until you are through this pain event.

You can find pain level scales all over the internet. . . they generally go from 0 (no pain) to 5 or 10 (unbearable pain) ... my own goes from 0 - 10 and beyond and I have a word to describe each "number" which is the most important ... they are MY levels to explain where I'm at to my doctors.

In answer to your first question ... it's too much when you say it is!
You determine what your pain levels are, and what you are willing to experience based upon your life issues and things you need to do (and how safely and well you need to do them.)

Hi there, did the dr give you any meds to take in case the pain meds made you sick at your stomach? I know some drs will. Everyones pain tolerance is different and when you feel like you can't handle anymore, it's time to go. Please just make sure you tell them all the meds you are taking and are currently on. I wish you the best. I have chronic pain and I feel for you. Hugs!

I would be inclined to take something to help me sleep and try to sleep during some of the worst/newest pain.
Thanks for this!

When the pain makes you cry... at least that is when I know that my pain is beyond my own personal pain threshold.

It is too much to handle when you can't handle it and you can't get any relief. I am with Rhaspody on this, when I cry I have had enough.

FYI -

It is best to take some form of pain medicine at the onset of the pain and not wait until the pain is full blown or it will take longer for relief to come... all pain is best dealt with when the pain is removed from the get go.
Thanks for this!

Dear LostSAvant,
I had ALL my teeth removed about a year ago now. Right after was THE worst pain I had felt, and putting ice on it was not working. I went to the store and bought Orajel, a LOT of it, and you know what, it took the pain away for a while. NOt for a LONG while, but enough so that I could function for a while without pain...perhaps try the Oragel yourself...and if that doesn't help, then call the dr office...they have emergency people who answer their phones when the offices are closed...it may not be your particular dr, but a dr WILL call you back...and then you can discuss your needs with that dr and perhaps he can call in somthing that will work...I will pray for your needs if that's ok with you...I find prayer does work for me and so will be open minded to your needs...

I live in Alabama and if you go to the ER with chief complaint as pain, they tell you "We are not giving you any narcotics so you might as well go home". I'll tell you when you've had enough pain, it's when you hurt so bad...despite any pain med you are on...you are in absolute agony and cannot stop crying. Also, when you have absolutely no Quality in your life, then you start hoping that you don't have much more Quantity left. Believe me, I should know because I am there at this very moment. I sure hope that you get something to help with the pain, I'm on 60mg. extended relief Morphine pills and I still hurt so bad that I just breakdown. GOD BLESS YOU and everyone else that has to endure constant pain! Please, take care of yourself....
Huggles,
Dee
