I called last week to get my doc to refill my pain meds and they said well he just refilled them on August 10 and he gave you 50 then. I take them 1-2 at a time every 6 hours. I take Tramadol. He refilled it and said well I want her in here to talk to her because she shouldn't have this much pain..umm no duh!!! So I have to call first thing Monday morning to get in to see him. I am hoping he will listen and not just glaze over like he sometimes tends to do when I am talking about how bad I hurt.

2 pills every 6 hours is up to 8 a day allowed. Then he gave you 50 pills. Yes you shouldn't be in that much pain but to act surprised it took three weeks to go through the 50 tabs when less than 7 days can eat through that supply at 8 per day...

I'm glad the doc has a clue now and might work on what is causing the pain!

Hope the MD finds a medicine that works better for you. Oh, you didn't say the dosing he prescribed ... and it sounds like he didn't want to you "need" to take that much!

It's a tough thing to argue. Anyone with chronic pain has to painfully jump through many hoops of various modalities to try and alleviate their pain, but also need medication during the process so they can try! Any arguing for more pain medication is seen as drug seeking behavior. You might have to cut back on the meds while insisting he prescribe other helps such as physical therapy, massage therapy, psychotherapy or whatever you aren't trying already.

Good wishes!

He prescribed them as 1-2 every 6 hours. I tried to go 1 every 8 hours but that wasn't working so had to go back to every 6 hours. Luckily I don't wake up in the night anymore so that is good. For awhile I was waking up in the night hurting. My ortho sent me a pain specialist what a joke that was...the pain specialist refused to give me any pain meds for my knee all he gave me was some cream to rub on my knee as the pain specialist doesn't prescribe meds. Umm how do you alleviate pain without meds if that is what it takes? I am all for not taking meds I hate taking them but if that is what it takes then I will do it. I start out taking tylenol and ibuprofen and if that doesn't work then I go for the Tramadol. It is a last resort med for me. I also have Imitrex and Maxalt for my migranes but sometimes those don't work and lately I have been having migranes every other day. I think I have a vitamin deficiency but that hasn't been checked lately. I think I need to have a full blood panel run but don't want to tell my doctor how to do his job. He just ran my thyroid and it came back normal. So something else has to be wrong to explain my tiredness, pain and weight gain.

Good for you taking it as he prescribed. Tramadol has a half-life of six hours. I was hoping it was only 3 hours and you could get a tablet that you could cut in half and take half every 3 hours to maintain constant pain control...but with a 6 hour half-life and you're taking two of them...this medicine might not be the one for you.

You said you like tramadol....but why? Does it not give you side effects like other meds? If that's so, it may be that it isn't working properly and that's why.

Yes, ask for a full panel. I suspect you also have a vitamin D3 deficiency. It's amazing what that will do to the body! Most women do have that. Vitamin C is very important as well, and will help fight infections too boot.

Good wishes on this. Talk intelligently to the doc and hopefully he'll listen and find a good solution for you.

Oh wait... you only take it when the pain overpowers the other stuff? Take it constantly...that's how pain meds work best ... never allowing the body to get into a flare.

My doc gets mad at me when I go through 30 in 2 months....I don't know why we have to go through this like we are.
