i have been having pain in my feet for over a year now...just this past february had surgery on my left foot to take care of a flat foot, took off my bunion, fixed my tendons and ligaments on both sides of my ankle, stretched my achilles tendon...just a major overhaul on my foot...well...latest news is that a screw broke in my bone which is making it unbearably painful, my foot which had an arch is once more flat...and my big toe leans way over next to the little toe, crowding all the other toes...when I went in to talk to him about my bunion on my other foot which is getting taken off in november, said that the surgery for my left foot would be more extensive and take longer to heal...he gave me a chance to use insteps in my shoes to see if that would make a difference, but no, my foot hurts a LOT and it is so bad that I really don't care to be walking...once the bunion is taken off my right foot all should be well with it...there isn't anything that he needs to do with it other than that...and i can't get my left foot worked on until summer...so I have to somehow stay walking until surgery in June...if I could, I would use my power chair but I can't get it out the door right now due to a lip that is about 4 inches down to the outside floor...but that would just make my muscles get soft and then I couldn't walk right...with everything else that is wrong with my body...especially my bones...I have to keep walking somehow...I am just in a difficult place right now and you don't realize how difficult it is for the rest of your body until your feet hurt and you don't feel like you can walk anywhere...at least that is what it feels like to me, everything is worse because my feet are in so much pain....and i don't know quite what to do with it all...

![]() Hope it eases for you, and you find a solution. Would a wheelchair or scooter help give you some relief for now?

Sounds like fixing the broken screw in your left foot should be a priority over the November bunion surgery! Ouch! It's not supposed to break! If it broke, it's certainly not your fault and the doctor needs to get that fixed and definitely before next summer. Why can't he do both in November?
Can you get someone (carpenter/handyman?) to come fix the 4" lip on the door so you could at least use the chair sometimes?

no the manager of the place said they cannot do a ramp where we are because it would interfere with the stairs that are right by our door...we are looking into another apartment, but don't have the money or way to get us moved...so we are stuck here for now...
as for the screw breaking he said it could be done if we walked on it before it was really set in the bone...I didn't walk on it at all...not even when the boot was given to us...but... he said it would be a longer recovery than the first time and we would probably be in a rehab for a lot longer too, which we can't really do now that we are going to have foster kids... we have an electric chair but it doesn't roll too well on carpeting...and since we can't have a ramp at the house we live in how, we don't see how we would be able to use it outside...and it is too heavy to lift for me anymore...if we had an apartment in the front we could use our chair all the time...so pray that we can do that pretty soon...it would mean having to go by the gobus which is $3 each way...so $6 a day to ride to/from anywhere...we wish we had a van equipped with a ramp...that would be ideal...but we don't have the money for one of them either...but that is our dream to one day have a van with a ramp so we could drive ourselves...if you know anyone that could help with that we would be eternally grateful... thanks everyone...for all your support, ideas, and suggestions...we can't do the left foot before summer because our daughter would not have a way to get to her bus every day...and it is over a mile to the bus stop...and in this day and age we don't want her to walk at all...and we don't live in the best of places...but the school system is out of this world good for our daughter...she is getting As and Bs and in 7th grade (two grades ago now) she got Ds and Es...that is basically failiing...now she is doing really well and we don't want to change schools on her if we dont have to... I think it's best not to have surgery on your feet unless you absolutely have to, especially not for flat feet. I have had flat feet all my life and although I do endure a lot of pain from them I get through it just fine. I have two jobs where I am literally on my feet the entire time, but I still get through it. I'd thought of surgery before but decided not to because I have heard by so many people that the surgery causes a lot of problems and doesn't really work. Not sure if the surgery was because you had to have it or was because of flat feet.
I really hope things get better for you. It's difficult to have so much pain just by walking, and although I can somewhat relate I can't completely due to the fact that I haven't ever had surgery on my feet. I do wish you the best though and if you can get surgery to where your feet don't hurt anymore or don't hurt as much I would definitely stay away from any more to correct the arch because it might make things worse. |
