No, fibro isn't fun, but fibro fog can make for some funny things. Let's share some of the funny things we've done or had happen.
One of my favorites was the night I baked a frozen pizza in the oven. KEpt wondering why it smelled funny. I left the cardboard disc under the pizza. I ended up having a bowl of cereal for dinner that night. Then there's being in the shower wondering if I washed my hair yet. IF there's suds on the floor of the shower I did! and the ever popular walk out the front door, turn around and go back for something I forgot only to get inside and forget what it was I came back in for... |

Oh, man, could my family make a list of all my wild things! I think I've repressed a lot of them. Because my son brings it up at every birthday, however, I do remember the time when my son turned 16 and I had two of those candle numbers to put on top of his cake. A "1" and a "6," of course. When I put them on the cake, I put them in reverse order, indicating that he was "61." My husband and son told me I had put them on wrong, but I just couldn't see the problem.
He was joking with me about possibly getting the numbers wrong on my own cake last year. But I said, "No problem!" After all, I was turning 55! |

Standing at the front door cursing the #&%(%# key because it won't open the $#*%*#&*( lock, only to finally realize it's the wrong key.

Ha! Well, at least you remembered to take your key with you! I've had fun with locking myself out a few times by not taking the right key with me!

Now if only those around you can appreciate the humor! I mean, can't beat it so why not enjoy it a bit?
I have brain fog as well, though not from fibro. And now that I'm aging, well, the doctors don't seem to care (and maybe it truly doesn't matter) if the issues are a continuation of my injury, or due to age. Just today I began labeling the cabinets in the kitchen (again) so I can recall what's in them. (Out of sight, out of mind.) It will also help to reorganize them for greater efficiency I think. I am tired of finding an old cold mug of coffee in the microwave--or worse, in the refrigerator! __________________ |

Blessings on the person who invented post-it notes. When the fog is bad my house is papered with post-its so I know where things are. Also have a sign on the inside of my front door that says "Did you remember to..." and a list of things to do before I leave the house.

1. Butter in the microwave/freezer/pantry.
2. Holding the hair brush and for a second wondering what to do with it and why you are holding it The hair never gets brushed. 3. Asking people to repeat themselves at least 3 times because you can't concentrate in increments of minutes.......split seconds are all you can manage, and then your mind wanders off. 4. Forgetting your own name/sons name/fiances name or confusing everyones name and calling your son by the dogs name. Yeaaahhh....LOVE that one. 5. Forgetting where you live when someone asks you your address. Could think of millions more, but like I said, concentration in seconds not minutes Good old fibro. Take care everyone. Had a good laugh Michah __________________ For all things Light and Dark.......http://thedemonrun.wordpress.com/ The only Truth that exists..... .........Is that there is no absolute Truth. |

For the life of me, I can't remember my phone number sometimes! And I have yet to learn my cell phone number, even though I've tried.
I also carry a list of all my medications and their dosages--not only for anyone in case I'm knocked out and can't speak for myself, but also because I can never remember the dosages myself. Speaking of medications, I went prancing off to my pdoc's office, bottle of meds in hand, because I thought I needed a refill and was carrying the bottle as a reminder. The doc said to give the bottle to the nurse, so she could write down the details. The nurse said, "According to the bottle, you have one refill left." I was totally floored. Come to find out, I brought the wrong bottle. I needed a refill of Trazodone, not of Tramadol. If life isn't hard enough, why do the pharmaceutical companies have to name drugs with such similar names? I have a hard enough time as it is! (As usual, I was quite embarrassed. ) |

I have so been there.
My favorite is when I look high and low for something that is in my hand. That is good for at least 5 minutes of laughter for all around me mj |

i've got fibro too. what i didn't know is that some of my mental fog comes from it. i too call my dog- cody, my son's name and vice versa. my son, tom, cracks up. he'll look at cody and say commmeee here, tom. so glad he has a wonderful sense of humor-tom that is, not cody.

I think the most frustrating and sometimes funny (if I can wrap my mind around it) is forgetting everyday words. It's bad enough I don't remember people's names, but when speaking of something I have good knowledge of and I just stop talking and trying to process to find that one word......oh lordy that one gets to me! The looks I get from folks who don't know why I do this is priceless though.....LOL.
madisgram, I take cymbalta 60mg and also have some celebrex for those really achy days and I have flexeril that I usually can only take at night because it makes me drowsy. Unfortunately, I also feel hung over in the morning when I take the flexeril so I don't take it like I should. I guess my pain isn't too bad that I can't seem to fight through it most days. |

Madi, I haven't found any med that helps with my fog. I've been in a fog most of the last week. I have some tricks I use to help myself, like the post-its I mentioned before. I tell friends who know about the fibro that I'm having a "stupid day" so they cut me a break. It helps me to stick to a routine so I don't have to think about how to do things.

oooooh sabby, i thought i was the only one that did that sort of thing...do you think i can remember the word i'm looking for when it's needed? no way...and to think that i can't remember fire hydrant that is outside our apartment building so people know where to park to get to my house...it is SO frustrating...I take Lyrica 4 times a day 150 mg...and that seems to keep the pain at bay for the most part...i too take flexeril at night, but i don't have the groggy feeling you do sabby...but it may be because i have taken it for so long it doesn't make me drowsy like that anymore...I also take MS Contin and some other drugs for other pain...so I am pretty much not in pain unless I don't take my medicine regularly or forget it...which I sometimes do...LOL!!!

more fun...
Twice in the last week I picked a coffee filter off the top of the stack of them, put the filter back in the cupboard and the stack in the coffeemaker. Scoop coffee into the stack of filters. Then stand staring at the whole thing wondering why it looks odd! Then there was the night I put something in the oven for dinner. Went in the laundry room and moved clothes from the washer to the dryer telling myself to come back in a few minutes to take out the permapress stuff. Carried dry clothes to the bedroom. Folded the. Went to the other bedroom to look for a book I wanted to read. Started sorting books.... what's that funny smell? Hurry to the kitchen to discover dinner burned to a crisp in the oven. Then remembered overly dried clothes in the dryer. My days of multitasking are long gone! |

Oh dear LizardLady....I know I have put the timer on the oven, gone off to the computer, got involved with things on PC, heard the timer going off in the back of my mind so to speak and never came to that I had to go out to the oven and check on what was cooking. Burned a couple of things like that....

Even after we'd lived in our house for a good while, I was trying to tell a new friend how to get there. At one intersection, there's an Outback Steak House on one side. So, I said, "Turn at the out house!" And then I said, "Turn into our driveway at the black mailbox!" Our mailbox is grey and always has been! Fortuntately, she's willing to have a kooky friend!
