I started to get that at 16 too. No fun. As for the pain, I've found that not doing anything real strenuous helps. Had to really cut back on the activities I enjoyed. I wear a knee brace if doing anything other than walking (if walking inclines or uneven ground I wear the brace). My knee also dislocates (hence the brace). I ice it when it hurts. For me heat makes the pain worse. Advil sometimes helps. I don't tolerate pain meds all that well, but occasionally Tramadol will help, but makes me sleepy. PM me if you want to talk more. lxe (your not alone)

yeah, my physical therapist told me to wear a compression brace which would help. i think she is looking into finding a brace that will hold my kneecap in a position that i would be able to move it, but it would be in line so my bones won't scrape together as much (sounds expensive). she also says i may have to take a break from tennis (which i LOVE SO MUCH)
I REALLY DONT WANT TO. working out is a huge part of coping with my daily stress. i've already stopped running. i really only do the playing part now. i'm just nervous about advil and stuff because it really isn't good for you... and i cant continually ice. idk. :/

I started walking, instead of running. I can see where your PT (physical therapist) would want you to take a break from Tennis. That puts a lot of pressure on your knee. Have you tried swimming? Being in the pool helped me. Not as much pressure on your knee. Advil in moderation isn't so bad. I have continually iced (not saying its a good thing) but I've done it before just to make the pain go away. So sorry.
Thanks for this!

I have osteoarthritis in my ankle from braking my foot and spraining my ankle really bad. I take indomethacin prn which helps a little bit. I have yet to find something that takes the pain away completely.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with all this at such a young age. My osteo started in my knees when I was 16. I am now 28 with arthritis plaging my entire spine (amongst many others issues in my back) and in both knees have significant damage because of the arthritis. I hope you can find some relief *hugs*
