Hi, I am new to forum. I have DDD and was seeing a PM doctor that has closed down. Where I live, drs, PM, are under a lot of pressure from DEA and don't prescribe much ,if anything.. I have been looking for another PM for over 2 months and no one takes new patients.. I can't live like this anymore.. I have gone to ER once to only be treated as a drug addict. But in my medical records it shows I have never been to many doctors are been prescribed narcotics from more then 2 doctors in 5 years..
They wonder why people turn to the streets. I have small children to raise and my husband helps a lot, but he is tired of seeing me in this pain. Thanks for listening~aimee

Hi Aimee ~ I know what you're going thru. I have a lot of spinal issues, and it STARTED with DDD, but I've since had everything done that a pain doc can do, and I mean EVERYTHING, then I had 3 surgeries, including a spiinal cord stimulator implant and removal, I've seen the heads of 3 Neurosurgery depts. in large hospitals and they won't even touch me, so I'm deemed inoperable now. I'm disabled and only meds can help. My GP is the only one who can prescribel for me, cause like you said, pain docs won't.

Won't your GP prescribe for you? Is HE afraid of the DEA too? If so, you may have to look for a new GP who would be willing to prescribe for you. I don't know what I'm going to do when MY doc retires cause he's getting up there now in age. Without meds, I can't even walk! It's pretty hard to walk WITH meds. LOL

The DEA has NO business in our care. They need to keep their noses out of it. But i guess they have to justify their jobs, so they pick on doctors for prescribing to legitimate patients instead of going out and getting the REAL abusers!!!

I wish you the very best Aimee. I hope you can find someone to prescribe for you. God bless and please take care. Hugs, Lee

Hi. I'm sorry you are in such pain. Pain management clinics are difficult to find. I suffer from constant 24-7 migraines and the secondary damage caused by having to sleep in odd positions. My legs no longer bend, my back is twisted and I've been through more than a dozen surgical proceedures trying to get a peripheral nerve stimulator placed correctly.

You are right. When you go to an ER, most will mark you as a drug seeker if you have had to go more than once. Before I found a pain management clinic, I knew the only thing that would stop the pain was an injectable narcotic. When I would tell the attending that, they immediately marked me and would give me anything but. Once they used something IV that nearly cost me my hand.

If you haven't looked online yet, that is a place to start. You might have to drive a bit to get to a pain clinic, but many of them can perscribe meds a month's worth at a time. The one I go to requires blood or urine screens every three months to make sure I'm taking only what I should, in the amounts I should and not selling them. I also have to sign a contract every year that says I can't accept any pain medication from any other Dr. without consulting my pain Dr. first. The PM clinics are really getting hit by the DEA which you already know, so the precautions aren't because they don't trust you, they are just protecting themselves and you.

If you can't find a PM clinic online, start calling Dr.s offices and asking for the number of a PM clinic in your area. You shouldn't have to face that sort of pain without any relief. Where I am, there really isn't any advertizing of the PM clinic. I met my Dr. while I was hospitalized for the migraines. Chances are that one of the Dr.s offices knows where you can find a PM clinic. I hope you are able to find something soon.
