I'm in some pain right now. I have been doing a lot of physical stuff lately, and that always puts me in pain anyway, but I am 60 pounds overweight right now, which only excaburates it. I was supposed to go in to see my doctor today to talk to him about getting referred to a chronic pain management specialist--or clinic or whatever--but I cancelled because I knew he wasn't going to help me out with this. He's always insisted that my pain was caused by not doing enuff stretches, and I know he was just gonna get on my case about my weigth, and I would still end up with no referral.

I can understand why you didn't want to go to that appointment. Have you thought about seeing another doctor who might be more willing to work with you rather than focus on the negative?

I'm sorry you're hurting.

Grrrr. I often overdo..and suffer the consequences (to where I weigh the reward before I do something.) In my recent trial I told the judge (in response to being accused of being able to do something because..) that I often do things I'm "not supposed to do". hehehe

Can you just CALL for a referral? Or maybe try the back door by finding someone who will accept you as a new patient (the pain clinic) and see if they will call your doctor for the referral???

Yes, being overweight adds to the miseries. What I found is even doing my stretching causes inflammation which causes and increase in pain. That pain has been reduced since I lost 30 lbs (due to Caleb's death. )

Try eating healthy foods (don't worry about removing anything non healthy for now)..see if that doesn't help your body shed some pounds?

It's not right for that doctor to not refer you to a specialist. Personally, I think it's the least the doctor could do. You need to find a doctor ( I agree with gayleggg) that will listen and treat you with dignity and respect. It might take some time, but it will sure be worth it when you find the appropriate care. Good luck....

I also sympathize, i bought a cd and dvd of yoga, don't use it that much but i know it's there and go to it sometimes, i know it, is even harder to get started. just tell yourself you will get to it when you have free time if any. Also i suggest doing it alone. The breathing exercizes are great for anxiety, but even they are hard to follow at first.Guess what? I took a tap dancing lesson and may take more as i had to walk out on the dancing group as i couldn't understand it but am going to try again tonight.
