I am 24 years old and I have been sufferings from headaches since I was in the sixth grade. It wasn't until I got older that I realized they were migraines. I don't get them as bad as some where there is nausea involved, but maybe that's because as soon as I get one u take an imitrex and it helps take the pain away.
I don't know what to do anymore because the imitrex is not mine, it's my moms. She suffered from headaches as well just not nearly as bad as me. She gets 27 imitrex for 3 months which if anyone who has migraines knows that that's not enough. I know she shouldn't give me her medicine but I'm in so much pain when I get a headache.
It's so frustrating anything can cause a migraine for me, from walking to fast to literally if I accidentally touch my temples on my forehead. I don't have health insurance and I have tried everything. I've tried excersize, teas, herbal remedies such a foods or vitamins, to narcotics and nothing but the imitrex helps but I can't live off of my moms prescription for ever. I've be to the doctors and they say I'm fine there is nothing wrong. But I hate it I get a migraine at least once every two days I feel like I am always in pain. I have one right now that just seems to be getting worse and I get so scared because it hurts so bad.
Please any advice on what I can do and how I can help get rid of this pain I can't stand it anymore

I'm sorry, I'm not asking for medical advice or different medication I can take just looking to see what other people have done or I heard that acupuncture helps and what not. I just needed to vent because the pain is so much and people who don't suffer migraines don't always understand so that's why I came here because I know I'm not alone in this

Hey there, I understand your pain. When I was younger, I'd get very severe migraines with some frequency, and it just makes you miserable, I know. I was never able to discern any possible triggers of the migraines that I could try to avoid, but after suffering from them for far too long I finally went to the Dr. and was given a prescription for Midrin, which is still a reactive approach to migraines rather than the preferable proactive prevention, but once I started to feel or sense one coming on, taking a Midrin really helped alleviate my pain quite a bit. I believe it's marketed under a different name these days, but is the same drug(combination of three drugs in one pill, actually.)

And having spent significant amounts of time sans-insurance myself, I understand the limitation and constraints that puts upon you. However, if you're getting them as frequently as you say, I'd strongly advise you try to get another opinion from another Dr., as being told you're fine when you're head is constantly in such pain just seems wrong to me. If they try to tell you you're fine, do not be afraid to be firm and insist they listen to what you're telling them. You are your own best advocate when it comes to your health.

What age range are you? If you're young, perhaps there is hope you may grow out of them. As I said previously, I used to get them with some frequency, once a week, sometimes twice a week. The older I got, though, the less frequent they became, up to this point, when I get one maybe once every 2-3 months, if even that frequently.

All that aside, sorry you're in pain. Hope you can get something worked out to alleviate what ails you.
