Has anyone experienced their pain med worsening their pain? I've been prescribed generic Percocet (5/325) for severe neck/migraine pain and not only does it seem to not help the pain, it seems to make it worse!
My PCP has referred me to a chronic pain management clinic after 3-1/2 weeks of daily, near continuous pain and I will tell them about it. It just seems kind of bizarre to me. |

Years ago, I was prescribed Tylox and found out I was allergic to the codeine. It made my pain worse and gave me a horrific migraine to boot. Perhaps this is what is happening to you. I hope you feel better very soon.

A couple of years ago I was on a 24hr lidocaine IV thrice. First time I didn't notice anything, improvement or side effects. Second and third time my pain increased to the "lying on bed thrashing about and screaming" level. I didn't try a fourth time.

Chronic long term use of narcotics can lead to hyperalgesia.....pain levels becoming intensified because the body adapts to the medication and pain receptors become more sensitive thus heightening the pain.
I've also had a headache reaction to codeine before, so I could imagine that it could occur with percocet too. narcotics in general are not the best pain control for migraines. Nortriptyline, Tegretol, fioricet, propranolol, imitrex....all better options I can think of and then some (of course maybe they've tried you on them already) best of luck. |
