I usually post in the Personality Disorder section, but this is about pain.
I have chronic pain of multiple types and in various places. I've been using Tylenol #3 for pain for several years. I don't think that I'm addicted. I have never needed more than prescribed for and most often don't use the 60 tabs that I get a month. My new GP wants me off it, but she doesn't seem able to find me a replacement. She mentioned Amytriptyline, but then felt that it interacted too much with my Mirtazepine. I just don't know what to do. How can I find a pain medication that will give me relief and not mess up my psych meds. I'm just so frustrated. This has been going on for a month now. My psychologist suggested getting referred to our Chronic Pain Clinic, but that will take months & months. I need help now and to get me through until then. What can I do? |

I don't know what sort of medical problems you have, but some types of pain that can be helped by amitriptyline can also be helped by Cymbalta. Cymbalta goes fine with mirtazapine.
Another option would be to find another GP (if you're allowed to do that.) I take Cymbalta 60 mg for fibromyalgia and autoimmune arthritis pain. It works well for me. It's also prescribed for my depression. Effexor is often prescribed for chronic pain, but when I took it, I had to take a very high dose (375 mg) in order to get the pain-relieving effect. Some other psych meds that people sometimes take for chronic pain are Pristiq and gabapentin. |
