For around five years, I have had really bad leg pain, and I have never been able to find out what it is - I've took so many blood tests I've lost count, and seen specialists, and to no avail.
I don't think I'll ever get an answer.
I was taking amitriptyline for the pain, which worked wonders, but then I was put on sertraline for depression, so I was told to stop taking the amitriptyline as it reacts to sertraline - I was told it may take a few weeks for the pain to come back. When it did, I called the drs to ask for painkillers for it, and they upped the strength of my sertraline and said that would get rid of the pain.
I've started thinking recently, is the pain in my head?
Is it as a result of my anxiety? Maybe the drs think that, and that's why they gave me a higher strength AD,
Any thoughts would be appreciated, as it has made life really difficult for years, I struggle to walk some days and with general day to day tasks,
Thank you for reading

Did the increased sertraline take care of the pain? Have you seen a neurologist?

Hi. I'm sorry that you lost the amitriptyline that helped you. Amitriptyline is an antidepressant, too, although it is more often used for pain now in doses like 10 or 20 mg.

I think that you should talk to your doctor again and stress how much pain you are having and how well the amitriptyline worked for you and that you want it back.

Even if pain is "in your head", it is still sending pain impulses up your nerves, so medication can work for it.

There are lots of causes of pain that are difficult to diagnose. Sometimes we don't ever know for sure what causes a health problem we have. If you have a medication that helps it, though, I think you should stick with it.

If you want to look at info. about how drugs interact, drugs.com has a good Interaction Checker.

Zoloft and amitriptyline *are* prescribed together sometimes, but they do interact, so that may be why your doctors didn't want to give you both of them.

I have both chronic pain problems and depression, and I know which one I want treated the most - the chronic pain! I take Cymbalta for it.

I have taken Zoloft in the past. It helped my depression, but it didn't seem to do much for my chronic pain. That class of drug is not known for being very good for helping pain.

I hope you get your pain back under control.

The dr told me that the increased sertraline would take about a month to come into effect and I've only been on it around two weeks, so the pain isn't as bad as before, but varies from day to day, and I will take your advice and talk to the doctor about it
Thank you very much!

Have you had your back checked out?

I have had years of awful leg pain, nerve pain and breathing difficulties. Its all related to my back. First session with the chiropractor gave me more relief than I have felt in years.

I was told it was all in my head too. Now there is a physical reason everyone is scrambling to help...
