So sorry, dear one.

Do you take any meds for fibro? I take Cymbalta--and I think it helps.

Thanks Trav. No, I don't take any meds for fibro. I talked with my pdoc about trying it after a GP suggested it. I would have to taper off one of my anti-depressants before I could try it. I decided against it because for a couple of reasons. First, it took a lot of time to find a drug combo that works for me. I don't want to rock that boat. Second, the last time I tried tapering off one of my anti-depressants I got suicidal. Don't want to go there.

An observation about fibro/CFS and retirement...

I just realized today that I no longer have to try to push through the pain and fatigue anymore. When I was working I'd make myself do things because of time constraints. If I gave in and left myself rest I felt guilty because I was letting things go. It just dawned on me that I don't have to do that anymore.

I feel like poo today and was fussing to myself about getting things done. Then it dawned on my that if I need to spend the day on the couch I can!

Sweet, isn't it @lizardlady?

It's nice not having to participate in the rat race anymore ...

Enjoy that day on the couch, you've more than earned it!

Well, there is certainly no doubt about this ...

Tomatoes are not my friend!

After not having any for quite a while, I indulged and ...

Whew Boy!

So stiff and brittle I can't hardly move, and pain levels have blown clear off that MFN pain chart!

There is a cold front approaching from the north. There's a tropical storm/hurricane approaching from the south.

cold front = fibro pain
storm/hurricane = fibro pain
Cold front +storm = PAIN!!!!!

Hi there! I have been dealing with quite a lot of physical pain for over 8 years now. Fibro had been on the table for discussion but my new physician wanted to weed out all other possibilities. Anyone else have a difficult time getting diagnosed? I see him in a few days to discuss it again and I am going to ask for a referral for a rheumatologist. Any insight would be appreciated.

Rastana, it took years for me to be diagnosed with fibro because docs kept chasing other possible diagnoses. Once they started considering fibro I got the diagnosis fairly quickly (couple months). The doc ran about eleven zillion tests to rule out other things, sent me to a rheumatologist who looked at test results who agreed it was fibro.

Insights....
There are still docs who do not believe fibro exists. Run fast and far from any you encounter.

Be kind to yourself. A trait many of us have is to just keep pushing through until we collapse.

This is ironic given my advice to Rastana to take care. I have been working like a demon cutting up downed trees and limbs the last few weeks. Kept telling myself to back off and didn't. Am now having a flare. In addition to my whole body aching from fibro the arthritis in my left knee is screaming at me. Am sitting on the sofa with my knee wrapped in ice packs.

In the past I would have beaten myself over the head for pushing too hard. This time I've kind of shrugged it off and am taking care of myself.

I went to the rheumatologist and he diagnosed me with fibro. There are 3 meds I haven't taken yet, but I need to speak with my psychiatrist about them first. It's funny how there is some need for a diagnosis, a name... It's just relieving and I don't feel so much like a mystery machine.
Lizardlady, I have a hard time not pushing through the pain, then I end up not being able to do things for days. I really need to lighten up on myself and give myself time and not push through. Being more forgiving to myself is something I am working on. I do think I am going to look into alternatives like acupuncture, etc.

Rastana, I found getting a diagnosis helped too. It doesn't make the problem go away, but it's a relief to be able to given it a name.

There is another tropical storm headed this way. Last night I was ready to just sit down and bawl my head off. This flare is kicking my behind and I need to do hurricane prep outside.

Greetings everyone!

I’ve always enjoyed reading. I noticed over the last few years, my autoimmune illnesses and rare illnesses have negatively impacted my vision (more and more). I took control of my health (transitioned to vegan) and it’s been a full circle of change except my vision.

This is not a sad post at all. In fact, I’m preparing (a lot of studying) to return to the workforce, after my son graduates high school (May 2024).

I’m excited but also nervous about ending my social security disability insurance benefits….fearful of my health taking a turn. I’m pacing myself and not going to overdo my spoons.

I’m returning to the tech industry and need to find a solution.

•I’ll need a platform with an extensive collection of software programming books, data science, statistics etc.

•The option for listen and read, I need to visually see the pages.

I listen to multiple podcasts Mon-Fri. I believeFibromyalgia Check-In Thread #6 ... listen and read audiobooks will work for me.

Question Fibromyalgia Check-In Thread #6 ...
What are your personal experiences (reviews) with
Audiobooks.com vs. Audible by Amazon ?

I watched multiple reviews on YouTube. Apparently Apple Books does not offer a monthly subscription. I have an iPad and other Apple devices.

Audiobooks.com - Doesn’t allow you to keep books you purchased and has less books than Audible by Amazon. I’ll verify this, I definitely need to keep books for work.

VS

Audible by Amazon- I gathered the best plan is the one year (pay in full vs monthly), 12 book credits and you can purchase books for $9.99.

I believe after the first year, you receive 12 credits, but books you purchase cost more. I have to verify this.

Thanks in advance!
